Round the Bentley
Man City motor nut buys £260k car for girlfriend
By Simon Ward, 04/10/2009
A QUALITY midfielder uses class, vision and style to stand out . . .
Others, like bonkers bling king Stephen Ireland, use money instead.
For the Manchester City star has gone the extra mile to treat his WAG - and complete a hat-trick of spectacul-urghh own goals.
Pimped
He's splashed out £264,000 to buy his girlfriend a brand new Bentley - and pimped it out in the way only a £70,000-a-week Premier League footie star can.
First the No7 has taken the motor giant's badge and paid a grand to change the iconic B insignia to JL, the initials of partner Jessica Lawlor.
Then he splashed out to have customised red leather seats with a romantic message stitched into them surrounded by a heart shape.
As well as the £2,000 "To Jess Love From Stephen" love letter, the soppy City ace paid £5,000 to add modified alloy wheels rims which carried her initials and sported bright red rims. The Bentley GTC Convertible is one of the first of the new 2010 range to hit the country.
It boasts a 6-litre, 552bhp engine with a top speed of 198mph and can go from naught to sixty in just 4.8 seconds.
. . . and from bought to tacky even quicker, thanks to Stephen.
Either way, the red and white themed motor is not a bad gift to receive for a special occasion. Birthday? Wedding? PHD?
Er, none of the above - turns out the 23-year-old Irish international just wanted to do something "really special" for his girlfriend, 24.
A source close to the couple told us: "He thought this idea would be perfect for Jess. He absolutely loves her and wanted to do the most outrageously romantic thing ever."
Other "outrageous" acts include Stephen's £90,000 Range Rover Sport. This black monster of a machine was delicately tweaked with a PINK grille, PINK alloys and, you guessed it, PINK leather seats.
He also had his red and white Audi R8 re-sprayed light blue - after teammates mocked him for driving in the colours of hated rivals Manchester United.
That £80,000 disaster also featured a Superman petrol cap.
"Stephen really likes the bling," the source went on. "His teammates tease him about it all the time.
"He's become a running joke when it comes to cars."
Laugh? We nearly cried when we saw these pics.
