Before reading it, I was non committal, I didn't personally use it but over the years having been somewhat desensitised to its use, it wasn't really high in my agenda and never gave it much thought one way or the other.
I understand the moral arguments and respect them. I also understand that most use the word as a sort of brand name for the rags, with little thought for any deeper insult and little malice towards the dead.

What is starting to piss me off big time is the other bit of the argument. The bit that means we cannot say it because the rag friendly media demands we don't. That same rag friendly media that, as though under instruction from the rags hierarchy or just that they are so far up the rags commercial arses, have somehow crawled over each other to create a dung heap disguised as a moral hugh ground to look down on us and express their manufactured digust.

From a position of being non committtal...I am starting to think i want to chain those fucking bent bastard hacks together, go nose to nose with them and scream....MUNICH, MUNICH, MUNICH...into their hypocritical faces. Not to disrespect anyone who died in thatair crash but just to alleviate some of my anger at them.

Sorry if that hurts anyone's sensibilities...it is just how i feel ATM...Wonder if they do guinness down there Tokyo?

Exactly.

I think making plane noises is tacky, not that I'd lose any sleep over it mind. But when the fucking media starts going on what should and should not be sung in football grounds it gets right on my tits. Kind of proves the point WHY so many people call them munes.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I bet the anti-City media (there is no other) went on about those cute monkey noises decades ago aswell, the cunts. Who cares about black people? I don't even know any personally & wasn't slavery abolished like 200 years ago?

How dare they try to impose their broken values on those poor honest supporters. Don't they see they're just havin' a laugh?

Fuckin' media.

Ant, saying I'm comparing it to the holocaust, implies that I'm saying it was a similar event in history. I'm not. I'm comparing the use of it in a song, to get under the skin of other fans at a football match.

Some people sing Munich to the rags, some sing the Belsen song to Spurs. United sing about Hillsborough to the red scouse. Everton sing about Harold Shipman to us.

It's about saying you hate supporters of a rival team so much, you're gonna slag off their dead. My point is that it's crass and a bit shit of someone to do it, as to me, the above are all in the same ballpark. That is the context, and trying to cloud that issue with all these weird excuses that miss that point, is a bit weird imo.

If people are saying 'these people are dead, who cares, they're fair game' - about any of those sorts of songs - is something I could at least think, 'ah well I don't agree, but at least you're being honest about your opinion, you sicko!' See I'm like bloody Voltaire me, but he probably had less problems being understood.

mate - the VAST majority of people in your poll have said they don't do it. coz they're decent people. fuck the media - make your own mind up.

if i told a joke about some midgets that died in a train accident - when it crashed with an elephant. and someone came forward to say that in fact, their grandad had died when when his elephant had crashed into a a midget train. i'd be mortified.

What gets me is that we`re 4th by 4 pts in the final of the fa cup and the rag/arry cock suckinghacks can`t slate the team so slate the fans to keep up the pressure...and we fall for it by having a 10 page thread on the mun...rag cunts. Well done everyone.

With profuse apologies to all midget grandfathers whose lives ended when the trains they were on crashed into elephants....but that, Arjan, made me piss myself laughing.
Thanks Arjan.

It's not funny:

http://www.halifaxcourier.co.uk/news/lo ... _1_3324577

DUMBO JUMBO RUINS LITTLE DAY OUT 28th April 1928

MAN DEAD

There was horror at Halifax railway station today after a circus elephant called Nigel rampaged onto the tracks and collided with a train carrying Halifax Little & Small Peoples' Association on their annual day out to Sowerby Bridge.

The elephant's handler, Derek van Schotte, was killed instantly. See page 2.

http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/What-the-pap ... as-to-stop

There’s only one place to start today’s media round-up and that’s with two emotive interviews in the Daily Mail and Guardian with City legend Colin Bell, whose views accurately reflect those of the board, other senior figures at the club, and the vast majority of Blues fans.

The man most Blues regard as the greatest City player of all-time has pleaded with the minority of City supporters who have brought a spate of negative headlines in the last few days to stop their shameful chants once and for all.

Ian Ladyman’s piece in the Mail entitled, ‘You degrade us’, begins with: ‘A minority of City supporters tarnished their team’s win at Blackburn by referring to fans of rivals United as ‘Munichs’ in a song hailing their recent FA Cup semi-final victory.

‘And last night former City star Bell spoke out in a bid to stop fans taunting the memory of the 23 players, staff, officials and journalists who died when a plane carrying the United party crashed at Munich Airport in 1958.

“They are not true City supporters. Football is a sport and at the end of the day, they are chanting about people’s lives,” said Bell.

It has gone on long enough and I appeal for them to stop

...Colin Bell

Ladyman goes on to point out ‘City have worked tirelessly to eradicate such behaviour, securing banning orders to supporters who make aeroplane gestures.’

Mark Ogden in The Guardian follows a similar theme, pointing out that among the Munich victims was another of City’s greatest players, goalkeeper Frank Swift.

He writes: ‘The club has made efforts to stamp out the songs with former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and captain Richard Dunne writing to fans to successfully appeal for a minute’s silence prior to the game at Old Trafford in 2008 marking the tragedy’s 50th anniversary.’

Ogden, too, quotes Bell, who succinctly ends today’s round-up by saying: “It’s sad and I think it is truly out of order.”
Hark now hear, The City sing, United ran away, And we will fight for ever more, Because of Derby day.

Big well done to Colin Bell for bringing more attention to the situation. Just what we needed mate!
Ah well, at least you've probably lined your pockets with a few quid for doing the interview.
