The more I read through this thread, the more there is a little worm niggling my brain.
Before reading it, I was non committal, I didn't personally use it but over the years having been somewhat desensitised to its use, it wasn't really high in my agenda and never gave it much thought one way or the other.
I understand the moral arguments and respect them. I also understand that most use the word as a sort of brand name for the rags, with little thought for any deeper insult and little malice towards the dead.

What is starting to piss me off big time is the other bit of the argument. The bit that means we cannot say it because the rag friendly media demands we don't. That same rag friendly media that, as though under instruction from the rags hierarchy or just that they are so far up the rags commercial arses, have somehow crawled over each other to create a dung heap disguised as a moral hugh ground to look down on us and express their manufactured digust.

From a position of being non committtal...I am starting to think i want to chain those fucking bent bastard hacks together, go nose to nose with them and scream....MUNICH, MUNICH, MUNICH...into their hypocritical faces. Ant, saying I'm comparing it to the holocaust, implies that I'm saying it was a similar event in history. I'm not. I'm comparing the use of it in a song, to get under the skin of other fans at a football match.

There was horror at Halifax railway station today after a circus elephant called Nigel rampaged onto the tracks and collided with a train carrying Halifax Little & Small Peoples' Association on their annual day out to Sowerby Bridge.

There’s only one place to start today’s media round-up and that’s with two emotive interviews in the Daily Mail and Guardian with City legend Colin Bell, whose views accurately reflect those of the board, other senior figures at the club, and the vast majority of Blues fans.


The man most Blues regard as the greatest City player of all-time has pleaded with the minority of City supporters who have brought a spate of negative headlines in the last few days to stop their shameful chants once and for all.

Ian Ladyman’s piece in the Mail entitled, ‘You degrade us’, begins with: ‘A minority of City supporters tarnished their team’s win at Blackburn by referring to fans of rivals United as ‘Munichs’ in a song hailing their recent FA Cup semi-final victory.

‘And last night former City star Bell spoke out in a bid to stop fans taunting the memory of the 23 players, staff, officials and journalists who died when a plane carrying the United party crashed at Munich Airport in 1958.

“They are not true City supporters. Football is a sport and at the end of the day, they are chanting about people’s lives,” said Bell.



It has gone on long enough and I appeal for them to stop

He writes: ‘The club has made efforts to stamp out the songs with former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and captain Richard Dunne writing to fans to successfully appeal for a minute’s silence prior to the game at Old Trafford in 2008 marking the tragedy’s 50th anniversary.’

Ogden, too, quotes Bell, who succinctly ends today’s round-up by saying: “It’s sad and I think it is truly out of order.”
