I think he is a good player, but where do our fullbacks stand after this?

Zabs finished last campaign as one of our best players at either left or right back, Richards had a good year all around barring a couple of injuries and Kolarov and Boateng were one year-in pricey mistakes(if they turn out that way, not sure we should be so hasty as to write either of them off). As Clichy is a left back it puts him obviously in direct competition with Kolarov and Zabaleta and if he is preferred(and I can't imagine buying him if he won't be) then that puts Zabs, Richards and Boateng fighting over the right spot.

I wouldnt say he was past his best but maybe that his best isn't that great. Decent full back but yet again I don't think much better than what we have already.

Nasri is a weird one.I wonder whether we want him or not or are we just playing games. For me he would be a good buy.

I think Boateng has put himself well down the pecking order with his attitude & should we be able to bring in replacements, we'll get rid. Failing that, it will depend on whether this attitude continues around the team. He says he wants to play centre back but he'll have to toughen up & learn quickly if that's to happen. As far as Zabba goes, he plays several positions so he'll just fill the gaps when we rest players/get injuries. Kolarov will rotate with Clichy but if he doesn't improve, will end up at Glasgow Rangers.

I think out of the two new buys that Boetang has more to his game to come, I was dead against signing him after seeing him play for Hamburg the season before, then last season didn't hold too many surprises, but he certainly has the physical attributes that are valued in this league, even though his loping style makes him look like he is just strolling around the park. If he is set on a move away then there is little City or even a contract can do about that, but writing him off on ability at this stage I think is premature.

Kolarov really needs to improve and I am not convinced what we have seen isn't his best and maybe he just isn't suited to this league or level, but again would be premature to ship him after all we give attacking players plenty of time to adjust(No-one is talking about shipping Dzeko yet), no reason defenders shouldn't get the same patience.

that sounds about right...and i think the honest part that might sound painful to all of us is trying to imagine a starting XI without Zabs in it after the last 1/3 of the season. He was immense. A total gladiator.

It begs a different question that is really harder for me to answer. What is Zabs best position? i truly do not know. He does a job anywhere you put him. Midfield or either fullback role when required. i can see him playing 20 matches next season due to injury, suspension or simply rotational needs. Does he deserve more football than that? Probably, but he'd rather win something and be in this side than play 50 games a season for Bolton or Everton or Arsenal.

I think the idea is to have Micah/Zabs fighting for a rightback spot and Clichy/Kolarov fighting for leftback. I kind of get the idea Boateng's days are numbered. (wouldn't be surprised to see him loaned out, but he could be used as coverage for central defence or an injury crisis at fullback)

I think there are quite enough serious games now, and we are hopefully mature enough as a squad, that there wont be too much 'fighting'. That will only be for cup finals!

We need two players for each spot to share the load whilst maintaining a top standard. Last season we were really struggling physically until Mario got us knocked out of Europa. Good lad.

Don't worry about Zabba, Richards and Clichy are both made of glass, there will be plenty of games for Mighty Zabbamaximus.

I saw Gary Cook getting into his car outside the ground last week when I renewed my season ticket. He didnt see me as I was driving so he told me fuck all about fuck all.

What I did realise though is that all newspapers and their websites rely on 95% untruths and innuendo and cunts like us devour every fucking word as though a prophet has descended from heaven with the Ten Transfers God Will Be Agent for This Summer.

Nasri would be ace tho

Wouldn't it be lovely if we signed a world class leftback, central midfielder and winger that we haven't been linked with(shallow pool I know) and none of the tabloid cunts saw the deals coming.

That's the point though, they've linked us with just about everybody we could possibly sign in every position, so they'll just say 'I told you so'.

Is this coming from a source other than the Guardian, as I think City have stitched up Daniel Taylor & some of the press blokes on this ? Most of the sources have come from those with close Arsenal/France connections rather than city.

i think the Frenchy on talksport that someone linked last night was pretty believable...he basically said this is "too" on for his liking and the sources he's hearing it from are too reliable. He said "could it fail and Narsi goes elsewhere? yes, but something is definitely happening with City that Nasri is considering or the club are considering making a bid that could win the day" etc...something like that.

i saw the comment from the Club as well later and it seemed honestly more like a negotiating stance than a a real denial. Taken at face value the words seem like we really aren't in for him, but i dunno...the vibe they gave me was a stock denial for the sake of getting it done under the radar.
