We had Balotelli & dzeko last season yet would have finished mid table without Tevez. We all HOPE they are brilliant this season but we know what Tevez does. We need to get a replacement as close to his quality as possible.

Anyone who says they are sure Balotelli & Dzeko will make up for the lack of Tevez is telling lies, we don't find that out until they actually do it. If they don't & we don't have other options, those responsible should all be sacked. It could be that all 4 strikers won't cover for him but if we have 4 options then at least we are cutting down the chances of failure in that department & doing all we can.

Failure to at least try to cover the damage would be incompetence imo.

So who do you suggest then Ted as a direct replacement for Tevez?

As I've said before, the only similar player I know of personally is Aguero. If we can't get him, then we just have to go for the best we can get even if it's a different kind of player. Bob has already said he wanted a 4th in addition to Tevez so that means two. I have no problem with the 4th one being a youngster provided he's good enough to actually play in the 1st team.

Imo, whoever they are they should be players who, like Aguero & Balotelli, can play in the 3 behind, as well as being the main striker if needed.

But Aguero has never played in this league so how can he be a direct replacement? Dzeko and Balotelli are not only some of europe's most wanted strikers if they came on the market, they have scored goals in this league.

There is no direct replacement for Tevez but we have two very good replacements that have the potential to be better than Tevez on the form they have shown so far in getting used to the premier league.

One of those players described his own performances as 'shit' just a few weeks ago & has a terrible injury & disciplinary record, the other hasn't been good enough to start games. Of course they have all the potential but if they fail, we fail. If we have two more, one as close as we can get to Tevez' standard, then we are halving our chances of failure.

Neither has looked anywhere near as good as Tevez so far by the way. Not at West Ham, rags or City.

I'd say Balotelli has at the same stage as Tevez was in England, albeit he has played less games. Tevez going is not a big deal, in fact it could be the making of us.

Wrong thread pal. Who's moaning here? And why should the fact that things could be a lot worse stop us from striving for something that is better?

Fair point.

Just seems that the general consensus is that Marwood and the club are ill prepared and open to possibly unfair criticism. As far striving for something better, I just enjoy my football from game to game. I have learnt to have no expectations of constant glory or success and take a more existential rather than teleological approach to following the Blues.

Nah Bibby is miles off Tevez when he was at West Ham .... and Ted is spot on about us being lower down the table without Tevez and his goals last season. We deffo need someone in as Bibby and Dzeko are still unproven in the Prem

What?

Where was Marwood when we were playing Mansfield in Auto fucking Windscreen Shield?

And anyway, the point was that it's going to be tough if Tevez leaves and he has little room to operate. Now it's time to prove that he really is world class in his job just like everyone else these days around the club.

Fuck, these "we used to be fucking shite" comments kind of get on my nerves. It sort of implies that we weren't here back then. I'd say 98% of us in this site were.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

me too, in fact did they put Roberto up to it when he said we'd tried to swap him for Eto'o.
Red rag to a bull i thought when I read that. Is this news his reaction?
They're saying his price is 50 mill and that will be a great help with FFP, so not only do I think they saw it coming, I think they provoked it now so that they can manage it rather than having it hanging over them in a vital new season.

Really?
Well, if they don't have one of world's top 10 strikers lined up as replacement, they can go backing themselves if that is the case.

Think we did and isn't that the game where we had all time low attendance in Maine Road?

Really, Anelka? I reckon we would get Drogba for a snip now and he has a couple of seasons left in him. I mean look at the last 2, he scores LOTS of goals!

He is proven in this league along with the chumps and has really been there and done that. The last thing we want to do now is go whoring ourselves round for anyone from Europe who is willing to sell to us.

As has been said though, I really feel this would have been anticipated and I am not at all worried, scarface has made us look daft since Xmas and I feel we did fine without him. Its easy to say where would we find those 20 goals a season from, but we wont lose a striker, we are bound to replace him, hopefully with someone who can score ;-)

we are talking about tevez as though we were a one man team,he is a great player but by no means irreplaceable, his goals came mainly in the first half of last season,if i am not mistaken he scored 3 goals in his last 13 games played, 2 against stoke and 1 against sunderland, yet we won 11 drew 1 and lost 1.

I think the management will have plans in place if Carlos was to sustain a long term injury which would involve Mario and Edin.
So this transfer request just raises a similar situation if that were to happen.
The situation has panned out slightly differently but to assume we have no plan B as to regards as to life without Carlos is niave.
I'm sure Bobby & Marwood have thought about what to do without Carlos many times and have faith they have the finances and knowledge of what to do now.
