Aguero

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Aguero

Sorry I made a new thread because its not about him signing but more about the effect that this might have on out club.

I cant help but think this for us is like when Maradona signed for Napoli.. they needed a superstar and when signed it really pushed them onto a golden era. I'm wondering how much this was on Mancinis mind and also if Maradona advised Kun to come to us...

To fair they all made a big impact.

Robinho, unlike to what most media outlets will tell you, was a success in his first season, he contributed majorly to putting us on the map. He was an invaluable asset.

Tevez, a massive success, whined towards the end but you can't question what he has done on the pitch. Strike rate has been out of this world.

I expect Kun to be a hybrid of the two players. Stellar star name value and flair of Robinho, dogged tenacity and goalscoring prowess of Tevez.

Basically the game changer here at [strike]Eastlands[/strike] Etihad. I can not wait!

Exactly mate. Robinho's contribution to our revolution should not be played down

The difference is we are coming off the back of our best ever season and the signings we make should hopefully improve us.
When we got Robinho and Tevez, we knew they were quality players, but to compete for 1st spot was going to be difficult. (even though we were thereabouts at xmas the season before last.) We were more consistent over the season last year.

This season, everyone is hoping that we can finish higher, but we will also have champions league matches to contend with.

Nah, mate. I'm not playing down their impact and I never say that Robinho was a failure. Our press never gave him a chance and have since delighted in rewriting his history. My point was how both of them just couldn't handle the culture and weather (and ultimately the club) and so wanted out of the door ASAP.

What I want is a player with the skill of Robinho, the tenacity of Tevez and then,...... the commitment of Kompany. If Aguero is that man, then he'll have the sort of impact this thread is discussing.

EDIT: What I'm trying to say is that whilst both Robinho and Tevez had an impact, that impact nudged us on course. What we want is a player that will drive us headlong into the future. Tevez could have easily been that player but he's turned out to be a bit of a knob in some respects.

I feel like this also, nowadays we are just expected to sign the best!

I remember putting the radio on on the way to work and listening to all the hype around Robbie, an immense feeling for a City fan!

Got to agree. I sat and watched SSN the whole day, when the deadline passed I couldn't sleep. Spent the week and a bit leading up to the Chelsea game living like a kid waiting for Christmas day.

Aguero is the best signing to date but signing a player of Robinho's calibre when the rest of the squad was pretty shitty made the whole thing more unreal and amazing.

Doubt that day/week will be topped.

Gotta pull you up on the wording here, Tevez is clearly our best signing to date, Aguero may(very slight chance) fail in England, so far his impact on our team is zero.

I agree with the Robbie stuff that has been said in this thread and although I am so happy about this signing I don't think Aguero is a big a coup as Carlos was or Robbie.
He may well turn out to better than those two but so far for me he is not up there as a superstar.

If Balo can pocket 20+ goals this season he will be our superstar. No doubt.

The day we signed Robinho was better as there were rumours that we were hijacking the Berbabtov deal and pushed up his price in the process.

The past two January windows have been unexciting - staying up past transfer deadline hitting refresh hoping for another last minute Robinho type deal and getting zilch makes you feel a bit pissed off. They should just make it doubly clear that no one else is being signed so you don't get your hopes up.

Quick Question, what is the earliest game he can play for us? I take it the Derby next weekend is too early?
