Nasri Deal?????? On/Off, On/Off, On/Off

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Re: Nasri Deal?????? On/Off, On/Off, On/Off

this isnt too much of an update but its some new news,
Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook when asked on Monday night wanted to respect the fact that Samir Nasri remains an Arsenal player.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been linked with a £25million move to City and he could be set to follow Cesc Fabregas out of the Emirates after the Spaniard joined Barcelona on Monday lunchtime.

France international Nasri has yet to sign a new deal with the Gunners and so could leave on a free transfer next summer.

The transfer window closes at the end of August and Cook would not add to the speculation, although neither did he deny the deal could materialise.

He said: "We always try not to disclose anything - obviously he's still an Arsenal player and we need to respect that.

"So unfortunately I will refrain from giving an update on that."

As well as Nasri, the future of Carlos Tevez has been the subject of speculation, with the Argentina international linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium for months.

In July, a proposed £40m move to Brazilian side Corinthians failed to materialise and the player has been mentioned as a target of Inter Milan for some time.

However, Cook claimed there had been no contact with the Italian club and believes Tevez will still be with City next month playing alongside summer signing Sergio Aguero.
Cook said: "He is still a Manchester City player and to see him playing alongside Aguero is going to be pretty exciting for all the City fans."

On whether Tevez will be at City in September, Cook added: "I've not spoken to anybody about anything that will dispel that notion."

Cook admits UEFA Champions League football is essential given the amount of investment in the North West club.

On the club's hopes for the coming season, Cook added: "(Manager) Roberto (Mancini) will be entering four competitions this year for the first time in many years and I have no doubt he will be trying to win every single one of them.

"Everyone has got an opinion of what we should try and achieve and what we should try and do.

"All I do know is that Roberto is a winner and last year he said he's going to win the title and this year he'll say the very same thing.

"We set out two-and-a-half, three years ago that it was about building a successful, sustainable football club for the future.

"To do that you've got to be playing Champions League football and to be playing alongside the very best in Europe."

on a side, do we really need nasri now that we've seen what Aguero can do playing off of a main striker and relieving some distribution pressure from silva (sure it was only one 30 min appearance but he still looked great in such short time and when not fully fit)? aguero's vision, passing, and football mind looked good today (sure it was swansea but still).

i'd love for nasri to come and he'd surely bring prem and champs experience to the side as well as quality but do we need him enough to shell out 25m pounds + reported 160k-180k pounds/week wages? plus, the amount of quality players that Mancini will have to juggle with grow by 1 more with nasri coming. amassing huge amounts of talented, expensive players on 1 team doesnt always equal success; the players' egos and playing time demands will tend to clash and lead to some headaches for mancini and crew. too many good quality players could be bad...
i mean look at Man U, last season they played Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher, and Park (at times) in CM (along with Giggs and Scholes at times but i wont include them) and now they're gonna play Cleverly there too. Rafael/Fabio as wing backs. those players arent that great but the team works and they won the prem last season and got to the champs league final.

im curious what other people have to say on this..... chime in please. do you think we still need nasri? (sure, we aren't mancini or the staff and they know best but i want to know the fans' opinions)

of course we need him. The rags comparison isn't valid because they haven't won the league with Cleverly, and Rafael and Fabio haven't been standard issue and were bit part players last year, right? They've improved with Ashley Young on that signing alone.

regardless, one injury to Silva and we've got zero depth at an attacking midfielder role and Nasri can play in the center or wide as well so he offers some options.

Nasri or someone similar is a must i think. at a minimum.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong but wasnt Rafael 1st choice right back all season when he wasnt injured.....
And you're right but they did win it with awful anderson and carrick, park, and fletcher.
my point was that the players they have/had don't/didnt have the price tags and (supposedly) the skill that our expensive team does and they can still win the prem with it. thus, do we need to keep adding pricey players who will all want to play alot and all want to earn high wages at City. too much talent could be a bad thing.

Not that this means anything, but I don't see any pictures of Nasri on the Arse website. Even with Tevez rumored to be off, there are pictures of him in various places.

Pretty much done now surely if them quotes are indeed true....

Samir Nasri has confirmed he is close to following Cesc Fabregas out of Arsenal and claimed he will do so with a sense of 'anger and bitterness'.

A day after accusing fans of being disrespectful on Twitter, Nasri left a message for Facebook followers to reinforce his feelings.

'It's nearly done,' said the France midfielder in reference to a proposed £23million transfer to Manchester City.

'I will leave with bitterness and anger in my heart. I am proud for having played with the Gunners.

'I have been very disappointed by the supporters last weekend. I am still an Arsenal player but I will leave very soon.'

City hope to complete the transfer before the weekend, with Arsenal at home to Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime.

No more than he must feel now, having put Gervinho on his shirt then actually seen him play.

Probably end up with Bendtner on it by the time they get to OT.

A bit more on the Nasri quotes...

Just to clarify, all journos last night checked with arsenal and were told to treat the nasri quotes as genuine. He will go.

Ok, so journos at arsenal for game, see nasri quotes, ask arsenal press office if account is real, told yes and told story ok to print...

Also, wenger doesn't do press conf so we can't ask him about them. Not sure what else we could do. Still convinced nasri will go v soon

http://twitter.com/#!/MattLawExpress

Strange for the official press office to clarify an account as genuine then the player to deny it.

Either way i think Nasri is defo coming.
