Nedum

That's a couple of times now that I've seen people say that Ned is clearly a better defender than Savic.

How can anyone say that with any sort of certainty?

I thought that also. How long did he get on Monday? A few wayward passes but nothing like Ned, who genuinely looks like he's going to trip over the ball every time he gets it.

I know you're probably being sarcastic with that, but do people actually still think we need players who support the club? I personally couldn't care less if they've supported the club from the minute they were popped out in Warri, or whether they learnt to love the club through wearing the sky blue and because of the fans ala Uwe. In fact, if we turn someone in to a supporter of the club that wasn't previously, then we're definitely doing something right.

Where we are heading now we don't have time for sentiment. I loved SWP and Ned as much as the next City fan and would thank them, especially Shaunie, for playing a part in getting to where we are now. But there's been players over the years like Lee Croft, Stephen Jordan, Ishmael Miller who haven't made the grade and we had no problem letting them move on back then.

And with regards to Ned, he dug his own grave. Not only by mentioning the manager but also by trying to drag another player, Lescott, in to his battle with the boss.

Ned is faster, stronger & positionally better than Savic has been so far. Savic has been chasing after the ball like Gelson Fernandes, had 2 players run at him, once v Swans, once in the states & both have left him behind & made him look slow, weak & shite. The 16 year old kid who came on pre season, looked miles better & stronger than him.

Other than that he's loooked fine & much better than Ned in every way, apart from when asked to defend anything whatsoever, when he's been a fish out of water. Boateng looked like the lovechild of Sol Campbell & dave Watson compared to him. I'm not saying he won't come good but out of all the defenders in City's whole squad, including the kids, he has so far looked the least convincing. Ned is a Premier League player who was solid as a rock in City's defence when fit & played regularly. There is absolutely no comparison.

My prediction: Savic starts a game anytime soon in the Prem; City lose & I'm on here giving Bob serious shit.

Do you watch a lot of Serbian football or is your judgement of the lad based purely on the few minutes that the he has played for us?

Also, Ned was far from being as solid as a rock. If he was then better judges than you and I would have shown more faith in him by now. He was average at best for Sunderland last season and was caught napping plenty of times for us. You'd struggle to get a newspaper under him when he attempts to challenge for a header and his positional sense and anticipation is not up to it.

You're right about there being no comparison, there is nothing for us to compare yet. How about we give Savic a chance to actually play first, then we can have a look.

That's a pretty bold statement after a 15 mins cameo & some pre season nonsense game.

Also, Ned being solid as a rock is a staggering exaggeration. He didn't look too good in that 0-3 disaster at Tottenham off the top of my head. Can't pass the ball, can't head the ball. Not good enough for this level.

If a player gets skinned twice, the only two times anyone runs at him, also gets pushed off the ball pretty easily & is running round like a dog after a baloon, it doesn't fucking matter what he's GOING to do one day in the future, it's pretty fucking obvious he's not ready to do it now. Let's hope he turns out to be Bobby Moore's better brother in the future. Right now he's not even Boateng or Boyata.

Re Ned: Bollocks.

When he had a steady run at centre back, he was fucking excellent. I don't think he's good enough in the air to be a CB or a good enough passer of the ball but I'm not going to eradicate history to prove it. Nobody had anything biut praise for Ned when he played CB regularly: FACT. If it's between him & savic to stop wayne Rooney or Ryan Giggs: Ned has done it before, successfully.

There are some very rosy views of Ned on here. Nice lad, City fan, but in fact:

Nervous on the ball
Inconsistent
Injury prone
Kia Joorabchian protege
Mad out burst on Soccer AM

Even comparing him favourably with Savic is ridiculous. Savic is much younger, just arrived, and looks like he has more 'attitude' to me, even to start with. Ned always seemed a bit too polite.

Agree with all of those things & I was one of the first people to point out that I thought Ned wasn't up to it a a top 4 CB but it is a FACT that when he had an uninterrupted run in the team, he was solid as a rock & nobody had anything but praise for him. His problems have always been when he first comes in for one or two games. Most of the time he's been ok in those situations too though. Savic is less physically strong, much much much slower (too slow to make it as a smallish CB imo) & we have yet to see him actually defend anything. Imo, unless he's much faster than he appears he will end up as a defensive midfielder or fail totally.

Right now, Ned would be a better selection than Savic. Neither is good enough atm for a team challenging for the league though.

That's nonsense, Ted. Neither you or anyone else on this board is in a position to judge the lad. He has played a part in a couple of pre season friendlies and made one late sub appearence in a competetive game.

Really surprised that you seem so quick and so keen to write the lad off. The last sentence, which I've highlighted, is utterly ridiculous and rash to say the least.

Interesting that Bruce wasn't prepared to buy Ned considering he was willing to pay more both in transfer fee and wages for two players in the Autumn of their career, Wes Orange and O'Shea. That speaks volumes about Ned's abilities imo.

I'm sorry Ted but I feel making any sort of judgement on Savic at this stage is ludicrous.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all. I've watched thousands of defenders & the number of successful CB's who are not either dominant in the air or have extreme pace is zero. Notice Bob changed the system as soon as Savic came on & had him bringing the ball out ?

Either Savic is not match fit, therefore gets faster, a lot better in the air than he's appeared to be or he'll be something other than a CB. Just watch.

I outed Boateng early & I'm calling this one.
