He matched Dyer or Sinclair, can't remember which, for pace to ensure they didn't get a clean strike in on Hart. Both of them players are extremely pacey. He is no slouch Savic.
I don't know much about his aerial ability only that he seems to have scored quite a few from set pieces from what I have seen ( YouTube) and read.

Whoever it was did in fact get a very very clean strike on goal & Savic had the same problem when someone ran at him in the states; much worse in fact. It wasn't just a lack of pace, it was a lack of physique to move the player away from goal. He is clearly a good footballer but I can't see anything in him as a defender that would suggest he should eventually play CB for the best team in Europe; which is what we're aiming to be. In fact apart from heart, I would suggest Boateng had more of everything.
Ted Hughes wrote:I don't think it's ridiculous at all. I've watched thousands of defenders & the number of successful CB's who are not either dominant in the air or have extreme pace is zero. Notice Bob changed the system as soon as Savic came on & had him bringing the ball out ?
Either Savic is not match fit, therefore gets faster, a lot better in the air than he's appeared to be or he'll be something other than a CB. Just watch.
I outed Boateng early & I'm calling this one.
Ted Hughes wrote:Agree with all of those things & I was one of the first people to point out that I thought Ned wasn't up to it a a top 4 CB but it is a FACT that when he had an uninterrupted run in the team, he was solid as a rock & nobody had anything but praise for him. His problems have always been when he first comes in for one or two games.

I thought his Mum used to be his agent. What happened there? He'd have been much better off if she still were.

Very well put.
We'll never know but it would interesting to find out if Jorabchian has soured Ned's feelings towards Mancini and if there was any influence on him to make those comments on Soccer AM.

With all due respect Ted, you seem to be making a lot of assumptions on Savic based on a 15 minute cameo against Swansea and a bit of pre-season.
Surely it's far too early to make so many judgements on Savic at this stage? Or have you seen him a lot before he played for us?
Just asking mate, as you seem to know a lot about him, whereas I've hardly seen anything of him and I've watched all of pre-season plus Swansea.

Surely you've seen a centre half on 1st look, leap up impressively for a header or sprint past a forward & cooly take the ball away from them, or be tough as nails & thought 'this bloke looks useful' ? Then you've seen others not particularly jump well for headers & lag behind a bit & thought 'I can't see much special about this bloke' ? How many times in your life, in the second instance, has that player suddenly looked much faster or better in the air when you've seen more of him ? In my experience, usually what you see is what you've got. It doesn't change that much.
I recon Savic has been signed because of his football ability & possibly his attitude rather than his defensive abilities. Bob wants defenders who can play. Savic to me, doesn't look like the raw material for a great defender, at least not at CB. Def midfield or fullback I recon.
