The moment you're talking about when you say he was beaten for pace against Swansea, he wasn't if it's the same incident I think you're referring to. He matched Dyer or Sinclair, can't remember which, for pace to ensure they didn't get a clean strike in on Hart. Both of them players are extremely pacey. He is no slouch Savic.

I don't know much about his aerial ability only that he seems to have scored quite a few from set pieces from what I have seen ( YouTube) and read.

Whoever it was did in fact get a very very clean strike on goal & Savic had the same problem when someone ran at him in the states; much worse in fact. It wasn't just a lack of pace, it was a lack of physique to move the player away from goal. He is clearly a good footballer but I can't see anything in him as a defender that would suggest he should eventually play CB for the best team in Europe; which is what we're aiming to be. In fact apart from heart, I would suggest Boateng had more of everything.

With all due respect Ted, you seem to be making a lot of assumptions on Savic based on a 15 minute cameo against Swansea and a bit of pre-season.

Surely it's far too early to make so many judgements on Savic at this stage? Or have you seen him a lot before he played for us?

Just asking mate, as you seem to know a lot about him, whereas I've hardly seen anything of him and I've watched all of pre-season plus Swansea.

Either Savic is not match fit, therefore gets faster, a lot better in the air than he's appeared to be or he'll be something other than a CB. Just watch.

I outed Boateng early & I'm calling this one.

To be fair he changed the system to shoe-horn all the players on the pitch into some kind of best-fit formation taking the opposition and number of substitutions into account.

His problems have always been when he first comes in for one or two games.

So, useless as cover & not good enough for a starting spot. Why would you want to keep him then?

Poor old Ned. He made his bed on soccer am; he can lie in it. I would never have believed he was that stupid if I hadn't seen it for myself. But for that outburst I would have had some sympathy for him.

I thought his Mum used to be his agent. What happened there? He'd have been much better off if she still were.

Very well put.

We'll never know but it would interesting to find out if Jorabchian has soured Ned's feelings towards Mancini and if there was any influence on him to make those comments on Soccer AM.

Agree....I thought Ned was much too bright a lad to have made such a naive and foolish outburst

As I said previously, if he wanted to go on live TV and make his feelings known about the manager then that's all well and good. He's dug his own grave. But to bring another player and team mate in to it was bang out of order in my opinion and that is the main reason I couldn't care less if he went.

Surely you've seen a centre half on 1st look, leap up impressively for a header or sprint past a forward & cooly take the ball away from them, or be tough as nails & thought 'this bloke looks useful' ? Then you've seen others not particularly jump well for headers & lag behind a bit & thought 'I can't see much special about this bloke' ? How many times in your life, in the second instance, has that player suddenly looked much faster or better in the air when you've seen more of him ? In my experience, usually what you see is what you've got. It doesn't change that much.

I recon Savic has been signed because of his football ability & possibly his attitude rather than his defensive abilities. Bob wants defenders who can play. Savic to me, doesn't look like the raw material for a great defender, at least not at CB. Def midfield or fullback I recon.

Neddy is the fastest player I've ever seen. Who else can pass the ball to himself and then score?? No one. Except Ned.

I just think playing for a new team, and particularly in a new country isn't an easy thing to pick up straight away, and takes time. Lescott didn't look great when he came in for 1 or 2 games previously, but given a run in the side he has shown his worth. Dzeko didn't look great at many times last season, but he looks like a completely new player so far this season.

I know you're not slagging Savic off, I guess I'm a bit apprehensive to make such a big assessment of the lad at this early stage of his City career.

If Savic was given the same kind of scrutiny that Lescott got, he'd be bood off in his next game! Lescott got hung for any hint of a mistake & usually blamed for mistakes made by Kolo Toure. Anyone with half a brain could see through that though & see a great big unit who'se a bit clumsy at times on the deck but is going to win 90% of everything in the air; something we lacked.

All our potential CB's have some kind of physical asset (aerial strength, power, or pace, or in Micah's case all 3) Ned has 2 of those assets; power & pace, I don't particularly notice any of those abilities in Savic. Does anyone else ?
