i appreciate the bravado of "gimme group of death" from posters on here, but i'd love to see us make heavy inroads into the competition and not "proudly" just miss out cuz we were in the group of death.

I don't want Barcelona first up I have to admit.

BUT I do agree with Carl that I'm pretty sure most of the seeds will be thinking, when the hand goes into Pot 3...."fucking hope it's not City" as we are a class above everything else in that pot. Whatever group we end up in, the team from Pot 2 will be very uneasy and the team from Pot 4 will be thinking "that's us out at the group stage"

Can we qualify instead of Milan,Lyon,Shakhtar,Valencia,Benfica,Villareal,CSKA,Marseille......I think we can certainly do so. I'd fancy our chances at home against most of Pot 1 too....and I think tactically Mancini will just go out to claim a valuable point when we play our top seed away.

I see SSN Champions League Draw show is on later. Pundits are Alan Smith, Ray Wilkins and Dwight Yorke. Anyone notice the connection and one missing? Typical biased editing/production.

I dont give a monkeys who we draw to be honest. My only slight fear is that we fail to sell out any of the matches as we'd never hear the end of it. So maybe I'll wish for Barca, AC and Dortmund?

Wrong connection mate. Arsenal, Chelsea and Scum - 3 reps from Champions league clubs. One missing.

Haha the formerly peroxide, wonky-legged Alan Smith would've been a proper low-calibre pundit. Has he found a new club yet? I thought there was talk of him going to Leicester or Hull. As for Wilkins, he's one of the most impartial commentators around in my opinion. Everyone knows he has a soft spot for Chelsea, but so what? I don't mind him.

To be honest I don't give a shit if there's a City rep among the punditry or not. I'll just listen to the radio instead. Even if Buzzer was on there, I still wouldn't be able to stand watching that odious little prick York.

If we did get a Barca/Real and we finished top of our group, wouldn't that mean we wouldn't see them again until at least the semi's and get an easier draw through the knockouts?

How many get through the 1st group? I've forgotton but I thought they'd designed it to prevent any of the top teams from being dumped out so it was almost impossible to get knocked out unless you lose to everybody & come last ?

top 2 from each group go through... believe that the last 16 is 'unseeded' but group winners get home advantage in the 2nd leg. pretty sure that if we get through we can't face any other teams from england at that stage. different for 1/4s though....

Its isn't bravado you dipstick merchant, it is more calculated. In the group stage there is less pressure to win, so there is a higher capacity for City to learn more from games v Barca or the like because it is not win or go out. Also if we get them in the group then we wouldn't meet them in the knockouts until much later.
It goes to the heart of what you want/expect from City in their CL debut. I want them to learn as much as possible playing their own way as much as possible. I would like them to do well but I'm not that bothered about the CL compared to the Title. If our Title chances suffer cos we are goo goo over the CL i will be seriously pissed off and would rate the City hierarchy as about as intelligent as that of Spurs.

I hope that clears it up
cheers

Coverage starts at 1630 hrs on SSN, 2 hours worth.

EuroSport at 1645 hrs.

ESPN - they don't care!

I don't understand this reasoning. First & foremost, UEFA will make sure that Milan, Madrid, Scum et al get an easy group. They don't want to kill off their darlings in the group stages surely?

My bet:

Inter (for the mandatory Mancini reunion)
Shakhtar (a very, very strong team, but not one of the big attractive western clubs)
Otelul Galati (the shitest team, so the top teams don't drop points, the least interesting name & I'm pretty sure one of the longest trips)

Milan always get easy groups afair, so expect them to get Arsenal or so out of pot 1.

Otelul will be a nasty draw, a romanian Stoke. Hope we won't get them.

sure does. i want to win and progress as far as we can, and you want to use it as a "learning experience" and focus on the league.

i'm not sure why we cannot do both, but just to be clear there is no team in the comp i "fear"...i just don't want our path to be harder in the group stages when we'll likely have some banana skins in the group without needing a Barca or Madrid. Comprende?
