Weren't always pretty from the Goat but they found their way in, there was a guy who could score consistently at every level!

If we had Goater again now in his prime would you play him with the service he would get?

Definitely - he'd score a shit load of goals with the service provided by players like Silva, Nasri and Yaya

It would be nice to get that kind of atmosphere back again on a regular basis.

I think that's doable if we continue to play the kind of football we have been doing. There are a percentage of fans who are happy just to collect points & also there's been a change of mentality to that of winners, but imo, City are not a club suited to defensive football & the club only starts to buzz when we have a team which attacks. This is our tradition; our history. I know of old folk who pretty much retired from watching City, who are talking about going to games again, not because we won stuff but because they're entertained & proud of what they've seen on the pitch in recent times. They have memories of teams storming forward & they got tired of waiting to see it again. Not just to see trophies but to see football you talk about 20 years later. A boring 1-0 may be fine for some but not for everyone. Of course we can't do it every single game, but if we keep playing this kind of football on the whole, the plans for increasing stadium capacity will appear sooner rather than later. It's never just about winning, not at City; it's about winning in style.

For the 1st year Bob was in charge, I often went out of a sense of duty rather than for enjoyment. Now we're about to play against one of the most unappealing teams in the league & I can't wait. That's how I used to feel when we had Marsh, Bell, Tueart etc. This lot will be on another level. The buzz is coming back & one day they'll be able to hear it all over the world.

The first thing that crossed my mind after reading this thread was the home tie in the playoff against Wigan.

One of my more surreal City experiences as I had the joy of watching the first leg on the big screen at Maine road. Certainly the only time that I can recall watching a match (at City) on a big screen. (Having just written that I wonder if there were other occasions when a game was beamed back to the screen?)

I recall finding my seat in the Kippax a couple of minutes before kick off, and being giddily cheerful, after a few early pints, having realised that you could drink in the seats. Drinking lots of beer before City played being fairly mandatory at that point!

And then the goal.....my memory says that the sound didnt work properly on the big screen at the start of the match (this may be selective on my part)..... but it just seemed to happen without the game having started (Couldnt hear the whistle) so the reaction around me was initial confusion as to whether it was a goal or not! The immediate (lack of) reactions of Wiekens & Weaver only added to the mystery.

The sickening feeling when we kicked off again doesnt need describing on here as we all know it and I completely share the joy at where we are now in comparison.

I loved Big Joe`s comment after the initial incident describing how he turned to David Bernstein in the stand...looked him in the eye and said...."Another peppermint Chairman?" will stay with me as a decent anecdote to summarise "Typical CIty".

Long may those days remain banished. And long may those days be remembered, as this is what separates us from EVERYBODY else.

Another of my favourite analogies from Josephus Maximus was along the lines of comparing City with an Ocean liner...and in particular, the turning circle of an Ocean liner. It takes a long time to turn a corner (or in our case a 35 (year) point turn) but once you are sailing in a straight line the sky is the limit. (Or something like that)

The other thing about that day that also stays with me was the Kippax singing the usual songs despite the fact we were all watching the game on the telly. Mad.

Know what you mean about 'duty'. At times over the last 18 months, I've felt like Pearce was in charge again. The promotion season under Keegan was probably the best football I've ever seen us play, closely followed by the first few months under Sven and then the first few months under Hughes, when we played some really nice open football.

Saturday promises to be brilliant and should be a stroll in the park for City, leading to an easy victory and a chance to get back above the rags, no matter how many they score...

However, this is City, so I predict a 1-0 win for Wigan. And that's why I'm not that upset that the wife booked my son's birthday party for 2 o'clock on Saturday, meaning I can't go to the flipping game.

The atmosphere we could generate in the 70s was nothing short of awesome at times. Oddly enough, for me, it was at its most awe inspiring if we were a goal behind with ten minutes to go. Genuine 'hair standing on end' stuff as the team would pour forward in response to the crowd.

I seem to remember being at Maine Rd with a screening of Millwall away, when then they didn't allow away fans at The Den?
