I met (bumped into) him in the stadium car park before an home match last season - he took time out (while his family and friends were shuffling about in the cold) to have a brief conversation which just showed his personal enthusiasm commitment to the club - I doubt we will again get someone with has such a fan foccussed attitude - and commercial skills.

Unless it is David Potts who has greater commercial experience and is actually a City fan? Whoever is appointed I'm sure Khaldoon will have made damn sure he is up to the job and understands the customer facing part of the role or else employs someone in a meet in car parks and buy drinks capacity ;-)

Whilst the shear number of people praising Cook's common touch shows that it isn't just a one off I think a large part of his determination to be that way will have been the fact that it was within the remit given to him by the Sheikh. When Cook arrived under Thaksin he was very vocal about growing our fan base in Asia and the US, once the Sheikh arrived the agenda changed slightly in that whilst growth was necessary the existing fans were to be respected and cherished. I'm not saying he wasn't genuine in his meetings with fans, merely that with a remit and the financial backing that he was afforded that it will have made any such meetings a lot more comfortable for him.

Personally, I couldn't give a flying fucl whether the new guy has a pint with the fans before games or not.

this.

It wont be an old football duffer. Could be quite sensational who they get.

I think the stuff Garry did with the fans although cool was somewhat easy because I reckon he would have had a very generous expense account and what to me was expected of him.

There's a guy who is Blue, isn't afraid of risks, has experience of international business and especially Asian markets.

Nick Leeson.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Slightly tangential open question:

Does anybody know the specifics of David Miliband's role at Sunderland?

No, but if I was him I'd fuck off quick.

he's bald too
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
