Hate to think what this trip is costing - but I know the family could go away for a fortnight for less - best just lie to the wife when she asks - trouble is she will see straight through me!!

Hope we get something from the game after all this

what was the name of the hotel and the cost as im still trying to sort out somewhere to stay

Nick -

Hotel - Commundo Tagungshotel Ismaning

Booked via Booking.com - Euro152

If you look up Ismaning on Google Map you will see that as you come south from the airport on the train line toward Munich Ismaning is about level with the Allianz Arena about 4 - 5 miles east

Just to sort this wrong information out: Munich is one of the few german Bundesliga towns, where public transport is not included in the matchdayticket. You´ll have to buy a separate tube ticket. Munich is also a town of law and order, they even control tickets (you can get on/off the tube without any barrier) on matchdays.....

And as the Airport is similar as Stansted far away from the City/Stadium, might be an option to go into town via public transport to station "Ismaning" and then a taxi for 5-8€ or a 15-25 min walk.

Spot on Tom. Went to the Allianz last season- thanks to Tom(!) - and they do check your tickets on the train to the stadium. Airport is miles out of the centre so get the train. Also allow for a good 15 minute walk from the train station to the ground, which though it looks near, is still some walk away.

So Tom - if I hav read your post right - Ismaning is the station for the stadium?

Hope that is right as that is where my hotel is so it looks like I will be able to get the train there from the Airport - dump the gear and walk to the Stadium (having made sure that I bought a train ticket at the airport)

Have I got that right ? (seems straight forward - just checking as a bit knackered.)

Follow the link cause it's a bit big for our website.

The other close station appears to be Unterfohring.

Fröttmaning is the tube station right next to the ground, lines going from main station/ Marienplatzl/ Hofbräuhaus.

It is possible to walk from Ismaning, there are bridges over the River Isar and you´ll walk through nice forest. I think a walk for 20-30 min. Alternativ take a taxi witch takes you next/near the ground for I´ll expect less than 10€.
I think there is no public transport from Ismaning to the ground as there are different tube lines and the town is in the neighbourhood.
All Busses I found won´t go direct to the ground. They drive from Ismaning to "Studentenstadt" where you change for the Tube to Fröttmaning, will take nearly an hour to get there.

So, my advice would be a taxi or a walk from Ismaning to the ground.

Tom - thanks - the reason I am anxious - and very grateful to get advice - is that I am only landing at 1800 (carry on luggage only) so I need to be slick to get there on time - do not have time for mistakes - perhaps just getting a taxi from the airport to the ground is safest - I am guessing that would be like Ringway to Etihad?

I that situation I would take the S-Bahn , drop off the luggage at the hotel and than you will be right in time at the Allianz arena by taxi with enough time to have a beer or so outside the ground (inside it´s only alcohol free beer).

Take the S-Bahn S1 witch cost you 7,50€ Single (Einzelfahrschein) or 5,40 Day Trip outskirts (Single Tageskarten Aussenraum), vending machines at the station, signposted inside the airport ( depends on your gate, but allow up to 10 min from gate to station)
Times departure 18.04, 18.24, 18.44 and so on. Trip takes 14 min. to Ismaning.

Taxi direct from the airport could/will stick in traffic (same routes as the football traffic), costs you an arm+leg (around 60-80€ into town)and you still got your luggage with you.....
