Bayern Munich away - How much are you.....

Postby johnnyondioline » Sun Sep 25, 2011 9:02 pm

....absolutely thrilled at the prospect.

Seriously. Less than 48 hours before the biggest, most prestigious game in our recent history, and we are not all going absolutely mental at the prospect of being the absolute focus of the whole of Europe. And that we have a team capable of rising to the occasion.

This is the top table. Good seats at the top table for that matter.

This is our reward for being believers. The Sheikh could have bought just about any club. He chose us for reasons few of us really know, but I like to think that the devotion, affection, and humour of us (the fans) may have been the 0.1% that tilted the balance in our favour.

Sure its a pipe dream, but none of us had any control of that.

I often recall a night when we were home v Portsmouth while they were at home to Porto & thinking that we would never be in the same stratosphere.

We have made it in the nick of time. No one else can do what we have done unless the rules change. I've waited my whole life (born 1971) for this. Lets enjoy it and absolutely not fear it.

These are heady / halcyon days. It is my belief that in order to fully appreciate success, one needs a healthy dose of the opposite, and as fans we have that in spades, to the extent that we (almost) expect it.

Times are changing. All of our lives will be enriched by the simple lift that football success brings in day to day life. Suck the air in, puff your chests out & make damned sure you enjoy it.

Great post Johnny.

Win, lose, or draw tomorrow - it's a momentous night.

I've actually seen us win a European trophy and it still doesn't dampen down the thrill of the achievement of us actually getting to play a European powerhouse like Bayern in Munich - and actually having some chance of winning it.

Quality post Johnny

Sorry seemed to have missed this thread, I put this in the other one but its more apt for here ...

Chinners wrote:This is probably the biggest club match, in terms of stature that I think all of us City fans (except John68, who was at the 1904 FA Cup final) have withnessed in our lives, a match against several times winners Bayern Munich. Those 3 back to back wins in the early 70's were amongst my first European memories as a kid. Frightened? Like fuck. It's going to be big manwee's for me tomorrow.

It`s on sky. The club snubbed ITV. I will miss the quality of the vision mixing and the speed of the action replays as I am going and cannot wait. Octoberfest an all that.

Didn't we win the FA cup a few months ago???? I would take that over a CL group game every time.

It is a huge occasion though and i think people are a little quiet because of the napoli game. No one really knows what to expect.

Completely take your point regarding the FA Cup.

However, I was really getting at the fact that tomorrow we will get proper world wide exposure in the top competition in club football for the first time.

The eyes of the world will be looking on with real interest keen to see if we can live up to the hype. I bet all the top players / Managers not in action tomorrow will be watching. From the evidence of my work today, even the rag fans will be more interested in our game tomorrow than their own.

A global viewing comparison between the FA Cup and tomorrow night would be interesting.

I'll be stuck playing for my team :(

I'll be watching a stream of it when I reach half time during my game.

To be honest the constant media bigging-up of the CL makes me vomit. Just another match which we need to win. I'm slightly apprehensive rather than excited.

Give me the Premier League 5 times in the next 5 years and the CL none and I'll be happy enough.

I think this game can be a huge oportunity for us to see where we are. Bayern is one of the most important teams in this competition history and by far the most important team that Germany has. Beside the games we had with Scum, this is one of the most interesting games of the New City that we have.
I am really confident that Bob knows how to handle them and i am really excited about this, especially when Bayern is playing the same tactic system that we have, the 4-2-3-1.

Not many teams won there, in Europe, but i really think that we have what it takes.

Just a statistic fact, Dzeko scored 8 goals against Bayern in 8 games when he was at Wolfsburg.

I'm very nervous about tonight. Bayern is a very strong team and they have a good run of form. it will be difficult for us.
And after all the shite the Bavarians have spread in the media about us, I would hate to lose to them so that they can "prove" that they are the real deal and we're just the nouveau riche kids on the block.
