Jones got a bit of a slating for his midfield performance because Utd were shit but I recon if Shakey persevered with him there, he'd eventualy have the kind of player everyone is looking for (eventually being the key word); an athlete who can get up & down, knock the ball around, sure up the middle, protect the defence & let others play. If he then eventually gets Barry's job in the England team, it will be fair enough as he could do it faster with more energy.

From my calculations(they may be wrong,one of you clever people can put me right if I am wrong) Downing has done about 110% more mins than AJ.
For example if one adds 110% to Johnsons shots that takes him upto 57,Downing has 62.
If one does it for the crosses Johnson has 227,Downing 324
