I could watch Milner's reverse pass to Zabba over and over again. He did the entire Villarreal backline with that pass - they were all running out as our players were running in. Lovely stuff.

Talking about runners . Kolorov ran the most tonight according to the stats after the game..

It's very difficult and more importantly, dangerous to compare the players. When Barry came on Johnno was shocked and surprised at being taken off. It was a bold move.

When Milner came on we were chasing the win. Both did what was asked of them, we got the win. Kun Aguero did what was asked of him

Unfortunately tonight, in my opinion, Silva, Nasry and De Jong had quiet games and orobably didn't do what was asked of them.

Mancini and his team saw the problems and made the changes and it worked.

Scoring so late in the game should worry Fergie.

Yep to that. Said in the motm thread that it was bordering on genius. No idea if he was aware enough to see the defence move as he changed direction once.. and then again and then again then reverse pass as they are coming out fucking total absolute class that as you rightly say took the whole backline out in one movement. If he was aware of that then it was genius. simples.

Milner should be in the starting 11 and on his recent form, could take any one of four different players' spots.

Definitely.

And should've played over AJ.....Mancini criticized AJ's play after Aston Villa and again after 40 min (althought thats apparently not why he took him off)..I dont understand Mancini's choice with him today. Milner is currently on a great run of form. For me, should start on Sunday.

Milner had a great game ... but I think villareal came out with a mission to stop silva (and nasri, but mostly silva). Our problem was we tried to be too cute in the opening minutes and villareal jumped on a flukey opportunity and took it, fair play to them. We need to learn to be able to mix cute with direct, in my opinion that is what utd do so well and there is very little way to stop it from a defensive point of view, you are always reacting.

That's what we need to work on, Johnson and Milner are both direct players, Johnson was a victim of silva/nasri being shut down in a crowded middle and of timing more than anything else. Barry being brought on helped us move the focus of attack a bit deeper, which avoided most of their bunched up players. We could then distributed to playmakers nasri and silva, wherever they roamed. Nasri did come into the game a bit more in the second half, as did silva. Nasri was not good enough last night, but I also rate nasri as fairly direct in his play. Milner allied that directness with workrate and intelligent movement and we all know about the result. It was great stuff and a godo tactical win, even though we should have won by a much healthier margin.

I think our chumps league campaign is going to be refreshed by the return of Mario to the mix as well. We can win again v Villareal and we can beat napoli. They won't be able to play the same game at home that they did away.

agreed - it is some times strange that foreign imports are recognised as needing time to settle etc - but English players are rubbished if they are not an instant success

The emphasis is on patience, slowly grinding down and tiring teams so we can pick them to bits in the latter part of the match. But this has translated into a casual start, lack of concentration. I wouldn't say it was flukey so much as piss poor, both Silva and DeJong being very guilty.

We need to maintain the patient approach yet make sure we keep 100% concentration and switched on. You can bet your bottom dollar Fergie's goons will come out of the traps at 150 mph on Sunday as he will have spotted our starts!

I believe mancini thought he could rest milner ahead of the utd-game.
I am confident he will play from start.

The real difference seemed that he really wanted it whereas Nasri looked uncommitted.

He was shit at Arsenal first season.
He'll need time.
