Is it me, or does Mario's reactions to goals sorta leave you a bit flat? I know Carlos off the pitch is about as much fun to have around as your mom on your first date....but on the pitch, when he scored, he made everyone feel like we all just put it through the posts. Even the crowd seems a bit put off by his reactions. Granted, the shirt was a classic....but does anyone else just wish he would run to the sideline and celebrate a bit ?

Doesn't bother me at all. I'm too chuffed celebrating. It's just Mario :)

I like it. I don't really have time for all that celebration crap. Sometimes it's entertaining, but mostly it does nothing for me, it's a distraction from the football and it's especially unwelcome when you're watching a limited highlights package. It's just Sky Sports theatre, and strikes me as false. Balotelli comes across as genuine, and I'd rather he do this than pick up yellow cards for excessive zeal.

I agree with this in many ways, with the exception of when a player celebrates 'for the team'. However, I'd hazard a guess that Mario's 'non-celebrations' hold up the game for just as long as 80% or so of exhuberant celebrations...

eh, loosen up. The game would get a bit dull real quick without a bit of celebration in it. You wait 80 mins for a goal, why not let the payers enjoy it for 30 sec.

And I'm still annoyed that players can't take off their shirt because a women's world cup payer showed her sports bra after she won the world cup. Fucking FIFA, all the attention about seeing an innocent flat-chested sports bra and virtually nothing about diving, harassing the ref, or parity between teams in each league.

Keep fun in the game

Nothing to do with this- it's about sponsors' logos not being visible at the time when they get the most exposure. Google it...

I think you'll both find that Diego Forlan was at the centre of this issue.

The end of the semi-final. The staring out the Villa fans who'd laughed at him when he slipped. The t-shirt. The arms folded against Krul following the penalty. What do you want him to do? Rather that than the choreographed rocking the baby nonsense.

Not so long ago, all footballers 'celebrated' like Mario. Then everyone go touchy feeley and now he's the one who's odd. I'd happily see all footballers celebrating in the same way.

I was under the impression it was to do with not the Premiership being a global brand. I know that taking your top off is deemed offensive in Thailand for example.

I am absolutely positive that Diego Forlan removed his shirt and it had an inner lining that was only attached at the top. When he removed the shirt it all sort of came apart and he couldn't get it back on, so he continued playing for a couple of minutes carrying his shirt in his hand until he was ordered to the sidelines to get his shirt untangled and back on. The law came in the following season.

However I completely buy the sponsorship angle, because it's at that point that the camera is on that individual player, makes sense they'd want the sponsors being shown right then.
