Agreed. It isnt rocket science.

If he brings De Rossi in, unlikely though it is, he will cover Ya Ya whilst he's away and then replace De Jong who will be gone in the summer.

If he brings De Rossi in he won't just be cover for Yaya, he'll likely push Barry out of the starting XI.

De Rossi is an immense midfielder (and centre half amazingly), I hope we do all we can to get him!

De Rossi somehow seems more like a sure thing to me, ONLY because the Italians are bleating on about him signing a new deal. It's sort of like opposite day with the Italian media sometimes i think. Any of our Italiano members have any news about De Rossi?

De Rossi is not going to come to sit on the bench. He will expect to be a regular starter, also the wage mentioned is something you can't afford for a player being constantly on the bench, not even us can do that. From what I've heard, Roma has offered him £5M per year, that's £100k per week more or less, while City has offered him £128k per week; that's not the wage of someone being on the bench most of the time.

However I think in the end he's going to stay at AS Roma, he has been a fan of the team since he was a kid and he's been touted to be the next captain after Totti retires.

I thought Luis Enrique's idea of having him play as centre half against Juventus was very similar to Guardiola's use of Yaya first and then Mascherano in the same way.

EDIT: the lastest news I've got on him are that there will be a meeting between Roma's board and his agent this or next week to define the situation once and for all; reportedly Roma are tired of waiting for an answer, they won't raise their offer to match City's but in the deal there are some bonuses linked to the team results so the difference is less than it seems. Also, it's not clear if there will be a buyout clause of around £21M but only exploitable from 2013 onwards, when he will be 30.

The problems as far as I know are that City offers more money, and that he would prefer a simpler deal without bonuses but only a basic wage.

Tevez,Bridge and Ned are obvious ones but in addaiton we have already sold Trippier and Mee might well follow, possibly Cunningham,McGivern. Cant think of others on loan apart from Guidetti but surely we will look closer at him before selling based on his dutch exploits.

Update on the De Rossi situation; according to some italian websites, City's offer would be up to £165k pw and City would also pay the £21M buyout clause if the player signs a new contract with Roma containing this clause. This is the translation of the few lines about it:

"Manchester City assault on Daniele De Rossi; according to the Daily Star the English club would be ready to offer to the Italian player 200k euro per week plus bonuses and would even pay the 25M euro buyout clause should Roma insert it in the contract with the player"

Fuck that, way too much. I like him as a player but as I've said before I have a bad feeling if we signing him ... hope I'm wrong but I'd certainly be pissed off if we pay that much with no/little resale value

I think Income Tax in the UK causes some issues, as the players will pay less tex in Italy or Spain. It means we have to really up the offer to land the player.

Ha ha ha, Italian media using them as their source. Unbelieveable Bob!

Why would we accept De Rossi knowing he's doing us over for money?

I don't really get why we want or need De Rossi... Unless De Jong is off this month or in the Summer.

I've no doubt we'll miss Yaya for Wigan, Liverpool, Spurs, FA Cup 4th Round :), and Everton. In the mean time we have De Jong, Barry, Hargreaves, and several others at a push who can play central midfield roles until Yaya returns.

Once Yaya returns, I can't see how Yaya, Barry, De Rossi will all start, unless Barry is then gonna be rotated? There's a certain feel of stability to the team, is it worth potentially upsetting the balance we have? Or is De Rossi that good?

CityfanfromRome,

I don't know if we are in the market to buy De Rossi or not but you seem to be falling into a trap that many fans and even the media fall into when you say we are buying him to spend a lot of time (or not) to sit on the bench.

I do not think that Mancini ever considers buying players to occupy the bench or as cover for another 1st team player.
I suggest that Mancini buys all players (except the younger developing players) to play in the 1st team.
It is: A...The form of the player that defines whether he is on the pitch or on the bench.
or B...The tactics, strategy or energy levels that dictate that.

The player takes responsibility. If Dzeko had outplayed and outscored Ballo, it would be he who would be considered 1st choice.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

What about Dzeko ? He was clag again vs. Scouse. I'd give him another chance against Utd. in the cup - but if he's still showing signs of not being able to hack it after 3 consecutive starts - it might be time for some transfer action . . .
I wouldn't mind if the guy actuall looked INTERESTED and made some EFFORT to regain the ball every time he lost it - but he just stands there waiting for someone to win it back for him so he can loose it again. Not the player who put 4 past Spurs.

I see your point, John; however I was just stating that with the wage mentioned and De Rossi's central role at Roma, if he comes to City he will expect to be a regular starter, and if he was put into a situation where he had to sit on the bench for prolonged periods of time, may it be because of tactics or bad form or whatever, it may cause him to become unhappy at the situation. Same goes for Barry, who would probably be the one whose place in the starting XI would be put in danger should De Rossi come.
