The Borgs are the other way around. They assimilate the people they conquer into the Borg culture/society, they are not assimilated into the conquered culture.

Apart from that you're right. The Normans were often related to leading Anglo-Saxon families on the other side of the channel, and spoke the same language, although the Scandinavian the initial Normans spoke was quickly forgotten and replaced by French.

fuck me...you guys are smart on the topic....back to Bob's point, how did the French contribute to English and did i "forget" them by only calling out Conan the Barbarian and the Norse hordes as heavily influencing the English language?

cheers

Grammatically the influence was surprisingly small - the grammatical foundation of the English language is very much (West) Germanic. However, the English vocabulary has been greatly influenced by the French. Just think of pretty much any word ending on -ion.

I did not realize that you created the English language...i thought it was something the Germanic tribes and the Norse vikings/Normans helped you fuclers fix, since you couldn't do it for yourselves.

We've taken "English" to a whole nother level, yo.

The Normans (who invaded England) were pretty much French after doing their reverse Borg thing in Normandy, and there are some remnants of French influence on the language from Norman times, more in the form of adopted words than grammar. (IE mutton)

PS, Tevez is a cnut.

Thought the Normans were of Viking stock? Like, 'norsemen', and that?

Anyway, they built some cracking churches and castles, and it'd be quite amusing if one of them fell on Tevez. Seamless link there. I should be on telly.

Edit: or read the thread before posting.

Tbf though, the ambling, rambling, meandering off topic nature of this thread is testament to how.bored.everyone is of this ridiculous saga.

You're right, although most of the Nomans hadn't been "French" for too many generations. I - in drunken stupor - got it wrong in my earlier post, though. William the Conquer and other leading Normans were (closely) related to the Danelaw vikings rather than the original Anglo/Saxon, although I'm pretty sure that there were family ties between them as well.

I do know something about contract and employment law...... and I would suggest that we are probably paying him unless we specifically included clauses in his contract that would address this unusual situation - which I would seriously doubt

The risk here - for either party - would be to do something that could be seen in court to be a breach of contract - CITY will not make that mistake - Tevez 'was' also acting in that manner when he returned to the UK and was 'getting on with it - he just lost the plot.

The PFA were a great help to Tevez in their ruling that basically wiped the slate clean for him - if he could just 'go through the motions' until January.

What will happen (IMO) is:

1/ We will continue to pay, until
2/ We think that the timing is right to hit him with a disciplinary and seek a massive fine - probably with the PFA on our seide this time and
3/ Look for the disciplinary to substantiate a breach of contract - again PFA support (being the legally route for action by both parties) will be important
4/ sell at a reduced fee - but hold back on all payments we can - image rights / bonuses etc
5/ sue him for loss (difference between £40/50m and the actual fee) based on the breach

If we do anything that leaves us open to a breach of contract then he can successfully sue us

I agree with this view on it. Sounds informed and sensible to me.
