Tevez

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

We didn't go down that road however, so we had a situation where a multi million pound asset has been gradually devaluing himself by being awol, but only available for purchase at a transfer fee which nobody was willing to pay but which the club was unwilling to reduce any further. Conclusion: he's still here in two years taking wages off us (see under Bridge Wayne ) or he claims constructive dismissal next season because we won't play him.

Now we have a situation where Tevez can (if Mancini decides) prove to potential suitors that he is worth the money City are offering. If he is to do this, it requires him to get some game time. That means; if Bob picks him, he has to perform well enough to persuade Bob to pick him again.

It is not in the interest of Carlos Tevez, to perform badly between now & May. It is in the interest of Carlos Tevez, to play brilliantly between now & May. That is what he will try to do, if given the opportunity. The idea he will use that oportunity in order to sabotage City is, frankly, fucking daft. He will try to win games, for Carlos Tevez. He may be shit by accident, but not on purpose.

I doubt he'll be shit if he plays.

He's been notoriously shit in the early part of the season for us though (until he gets upto speed), presumably due to his dislike for training. And he is basically in an early season phase again (or rather preseason to be precise), untrained and unfit (but reported to be back in fitness training). If/when he plays I predict he will be at best erratic from one game to the next, at worst shit.

I think people who describe Tevez as being shit early season, probably including me, are really talking about 'shit by his standards'. I would say a more accurate description is 'a bit below par'. He's still made a contribution, just not the same contribution or workrate as when he's fit. I expect him to be fitter now than he would be in August though.

It's in everyone's interest (even the fans in the longrun) that he plays again this season - just to show that he's match fit and saleable for the summer. Then we can get rid of the little fucler. Hence the apology and withdrawing of the appeal.

It's not you who it's for though. What matters is if Mancini accepts it. If he does, Tevez is back.

I can't see Tevez playing again for city. he's going to take the next four weeks getting fit. he'll be allowed holiday over easter and by that time we will know where we stand with the pl and europe.

Roberto has absolutely no need to use him and his presence, to quote graham chapman in the python sketch about oscar wild, is like a dose of the clap. "his arrival gave us pleasure, whilst his departure left a pain in the dong".

the whole, what if, but wait!, perhaps scenario with Teves, is a complete waste of time. he will not get to play again. our owner, has been very, very gracious with the little git. i for one don't ever want to see him in a city shirt again.

This apology is only cosmetic and if anyone thinks it it meaningful, they are dreaming. Genuine apologies come from the heart not at the end of negotiations.
This announcement should only be seen in the light of . what is mutually best for the player and the club. An attempt to close a long running issue and allow both parties to move on.

...and move on we should.

As Taggart has called it, it's squeaky bum time. We are at the start of the home straight and the rags are sat on our shoulder with Spurs not far behind. The last thing we need is distractions and this issue has been a distraction.

If proof were needed that City have dealt with this issue at higher level than Mncini, we should note that last night's meetiing was between Marwood and Tevez, not Mancini and Tevez.

Anyone who cheers Tevez needs their bumps felt. I am going to hate seeing the gypsy tramp play for ny team. In mancini I trust and he has won the tevez war which in itself will stand mancini in good stead for any future "player challenges". The club have ahown a big belief in backing mancini all the way, this is a massive statement and the only good thing to come out of this debacle. FORZA MANCINI - FORKOF TEVEZ

Mancini has the more important job of preparing the team for tonight & will no doubt meet Tevez when he has a spare moment. Proof if it were needed, of how Tevez will not be allowed to cause any distraction from the team purpose. That has been made clear to him by the suits, the manager & the players. The only people who could cock it up are fans, if they use Tevez as an excuse to poison the atmosphere.

Pre game at half time?

I originally thought pre game but as I was typing I realised the game starts at 5. No one will be there. Half time will have a decent crowd.

Quite true Ted.

I am confident that within the club, everything has been cleared to allow the maximum focus on the job that has to be done. Like you, my only fear is what part (if any) the fans might play, distracting the club from it.

I completely agree with Ted..... this whole "Distraction" people keep alluding to, is, IMO, not a distraction to the players or the club, and it certainly wont be any more distracting than it has been in the past, i.e immediately after the Munich Game, then with him deciding to just fuck off etc..... IMO this is less of a distraction.

The only people I think this is distracting is the fans.....

What do we want this season? To win the league? Yes
All fans want the same goal, the same end result. Lets pull ourselves together, and all support the club and the players in doing just that! IF and its a big IF, Tevez comes on the pitch, there is undoubtedly going to be a lot of negativity from the terraces... THIS is what would be distracting for the players, NOT the fact that he has apologised, and may be back in training. He probably won't be training with the First Team yet, and may not do at all.

This apology is nothing more than a PR excercise from the Tevez camp to try and settle the dust, and keep things quiet until the end of the season when we can get rid, and do it fairly amicably whilst keeping his value as high as we possibly can! It works out well for both parties. The only party not benefitting immediately are the fans.... the fans are important, and the club try and make sure that our values are listened to etc.... Its my belief that because of our animosity towards the little rat, I doubt the club will sanction his return to the playing squad any time soon.

I read/heard somewhere he was in breach of contract because he had not made himself available for selection by not being here and not training etc. He is training to regain fitness to make himself available for selection.... its upto Mancini to decide if he selects him or not, I wouldn't be surprised if Bob has at any point been briefed not to select him however. It's all just a contractual PR stunt to try and bring all into line again!

It's rare I disagree with you Ted but I do this time.
I never wanted to see that Cnut wearing a City shirt again, ever. If he does get to come onto the field I believe every fan of football, let alone City, owes it to themselves to give him as much stick as humanly possible. This shouldn't be seen as "poisoning the atmosphere" against the team in general, just a demonstration of total animosity toward one greedy, self-serving tosspot.

Booing him, as an individual though who is part of the TEAM is still booing part of that team.... he would less likely perform as well, and as result be this would be detrimental to the team, and would also cause some level of distraction to the rest of the TEAM also.

I agree with your sentiments, but it would be wrong to start booing, thus causing a negative atmosphere.... this is the ONE thing we as fans should not want around the club/players at this time of the season!

Best for all concerned is to not play him at all, just get him fit so that he can fulfill his contractual obligations of being available for selection, and leave it at that!

If he apologises on the pitch, on his knees, to a full house (say at the Blackburn game) and in English, there is a small chance the fans might accept it.

If he is accepted back by the other players and management team I guess we just have to suck it and see. It does appear to me that the players have welcomed him back but you never know what goes on behind closed doors. I won’t be cheering him on or chanting his name and have not done so since the debacle started in December 2010.

I do hope though that it doesn’t create a shit atmosphere form the stands as this will have a diverse affect on the team. We need to support the lads through what will be the most important run of games I can ever remember as a fan. If he can play anywhere near the level we know he can then we have a great player for the run in, but im not holding my breath.

Let’s just get behind the lads in this run in and cheer them onto the title.
