My main problem with him is that sometimes he 'half' tracks back. David Platt, coincidentally, used to do the same; appear as if he was about to track a runner, then just let him go, thus nobody else picks him up. Yaya has done plenty of that at City & also is usually 2 yards quicker going forward than he is going back. Last night, he seemed quicker to get into position. Whether that's down to a word from Bob or because it's Liverpool or because of the importance of winning after losing, I don't know, but he played like a champion.
Awesome performance.

Any thoughts on why VK got MOM? I thought last night was a stunning performance from Yaya, one of the best I have seen. His running on the ball away from danger towards the end and putting the pressure firmly back on Liverpool was a massive part of our victory last night.
At the back of my mind though I always wonder about his stamina since he used to take 5 minute lie downs after runs, but games like last night proves he has it, which is why the Sunderland goal, and some others this season were so disappointing from him.

I think Carrol, in the air, was tearing Kolo & Clichy a new arsehole at times on the quiet so Vinny had to keep filling the holes when the ball dropped off to Liverpool players or intercepting crosses. I don't know if you were at the match but the conditions were fucking awful & for all the piss taking, Carrol is a fucking monster who wins almost every ball against almost everybody. Vinny stood up really well & it was impressive. Strangely he was awful on the ball; it was more of a Richard Dunnepany type performance!
I agree though, Yaya was fantastic & has shown he could be like a 50mph travelling brick wall defensively if he pushed himself every game.

Yeah was there and the conditions were as bad as I have seen in a long time. More than anything it was his distribution and quality once he had the ball that I thought was poor. It's great doing the first part of the job of defending which is stopping the oppo, but its pretty pointless if you give it straight back to them so often (moreso in the first half) which is why I was surprised to see him given mom over yaya. It was definately his best game to date against Carrol who I thought before last night might have had the indian sign over Vinny.
Interesting point about "all the piss taking" out of Carroll. Usually when he plays us, in particular boxing day last year, he can look like a world beater. I thought that performance last year at Newcastle was one of the most accomplished centre forwards performances I have ever seen, in the air, on the ground, general intelligence. Just don't get how Liverpool manage to get so little out of him by playing in a system that simply doesnt work for him.
Will Manchester City's Toure face the same punishment as Liverpool's Suarez?
Yaya Toure was caught doing a two fingered salute to Wolves fans yesterday, it was captured on camera on two occasions and people have taken stills from those images. For avoidance of doubt, we've been told the actions were towards the supporters and not instructions to a team mate.
Last December Liverpool's Luis Suarez received a one game ban and a £20,000 fine for giving a hand gesture to Fulham fans after they gave him a barrage of abuse during the game, calling him a cheat amongst other things.
It was probably over the top but The FA had to ban him because they had made their own precedent when they banned Stephen Carr, of Birmingham City, for giving the 'wanker' sign to opposing supporters.
This is where The FA have left themselves a hole, who knows what the fans were saying to Toure and whether that justifies the response? However, because of the precedent if they don't act then they're clearly not being consistent.
For Toure then to miss the all important Manchester derby would seem absurd. On the flip side, these players know they have the world looking at them and so to lose their temper and do something which can quite easily be caught on camera is a bit stupid.
Perhaps the rules on this need looking at again or perhaps players could just keep their hand gestures under control during games.

10 yellows for a ban at this stage in the season i believe.
I think it's 5 up until February.

Hopefully that is his "rusty" performance out of the way and he'll be back on all cylinders Monday and thereafter

Definitely.
I'd start de jong ahead of him. De jong started the two games before that and we looked better when he came on yesterday.
Yaya off the bench if we need something different?
