We're talking about the G man, right? At least he can afford a second hotel 'for the fans' now.

Former defender appointed as a Coach on Roy Hodgson's England staff.

Former England defender Gary Neville has been appointed as a Coach to Roy Hodgson’s England staff.

Neville, who holds UEFA A and B Coaching Licences, has signed a four year contract with The FA,.

During a successful playing career he made 85 England appearances, while winning every domestic honour with Manchester United, and the UEFA Champions League.

He represented England at Euro 96, Euro 2000, Euro 2004, World Cup 98 and World Cup 2006.

After retiring in 2010-11, he has been widely acclaimed for his football analysis during his first season working for Sky Sports.

Gary will join Coach Ray Lewington and Goalkeeper Coaches Ray Clemence and Dave Watson in Hodgson's coaching staff at the European Championship.

The England Manager said: "Gary has achieved so much in the game as a player with Manchester United and England.

"He has obtained UEFA coaching qualifications and will be tremendously respected by the players because of his vast experience as a player.

"At my first meeting with The FA, I explained that Gary was someone I wanted as part of my staff. I think it is very important we have a younger coach who knows the dressing room and is very experienced at international level.

"That he has represented England as a player at five major finals tournaments will make him an invaluable member of staff."

Gary Neville added: "Roy asking me to be a part of his staff and to work with the national team is not only an honour but a very special moment for me.

"I had absolutely no hesitation in accepting this role and I am relishing the opportunity to work alongside Roy and the team at the Euros and through to the next two tournaments"

I think its a great move by Hodgson.

The cunt has played at the very top level in the recent past and can identify with the current players. He also has shown an excellent grasp of analysing games and picking up patterns of play which can only be a good thing to have someone with true tactical acumen able to apply that knowledge to the English defence.

I am very happy with this, looks like a sign that England really mean business.

But it also means that the only truly knowledgable pundit is gone. He gave us a taste of what football on TV could be like and now we have to go back to the same old crap again.

I don't see why he would not also be doing his sky work.

There are no premier league games on international week. If he is a coach / analyst for the FA, its not really full time job as you can only coach players when they are present, and can only analyse a handful of opposition games a year.

I wonder if he can do both jobs? He'd obviously have to go part time with Sky but think what a huge asset it would be for them to have a commentator/analyst actually behind the scenes for England.

Very astute move imo by Hodgson.

I'm starting to like the horrible rat faced git, but only in a kind of the person you love to hate way. Maybe he confirms that even wankers you cannot stand can actually talk sense.

For all we know someone was analysing the games for him, and passing him the info before he presented it.

He comes across well, i still hate him, but i dont mind him talking about our club.

I know deep down he hates City and it will really really annoy him that he has to be sensible and presentational about his comments while he's on Sky.

Good move for England I think.

You can't say that. Apparently he said few "interesting" things during the season and therefore is a hero and deserves the job.

That "man" is fucking rag cunt of highest order.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He won't be allowed to be a pundit whilst on action with England, it's in the rules somewhere, similar to when Thompson goes back periodically to help out at Liverpool.

I suppose it doesn't matter much as he won't be punditing on Prem games when England are playing.

Knowledgable individual and the young face needed to get close to the players. As much asI can't stand the turd, a good appointment nonetheless.

If someone else was doing it, you would have to ask why skys coverage was so lame in the lull between his appointment and andy grays sacking.

i'd have to say tho, i see very few commentators who actually say something from which i learn about the game, and hear something insightful from a player's perspective. I believe he does that quite well.

Rag cunt rat-faced fuckhole or not, if he can be objective about the football i can be objective about him coaching England for sure.

imho England, despite how much some think they are overhyped, couldn't do much worse than they've done in the last decade. Every manager has pretty much proven that yr a quarterfinals tournament pony, no matter who the jockey is. Except maybe the Wally with the Brolly i suppose, but even then i thought he kinda got handed a shit sammich in some ways and could have made the Euros and got run out in the quarters quite easily.

Weekend at Bernie's style...i believe England should have appointed a dead manager instead of Roy just to see what he could get done. You would have your pick of some greats to choose from a Zombie Gaffer. Think about it. You know it makes sense.

cheers
