Anyone else looking forward to next seasons opening credits to the show every week which will end with Vinny lifting the Prem trophy .... not arf

BBC renews Match of the Day deal
The BBC has agreed a new deal to broadcast Premier League highlights until the end of the 2015-16 season.
The current deal had been scheduled to expire at the end of next season but a three-year extension has been signed.
The rights cover the Saturday evening Match of the Day programme, the Sunday morning repeat, MOTD2 on Sunday evenings and other evenings when Premier League fixtures justify a show.
The programmes will be available on the BBC's iPlayer from midnight on Mondays.
Premier League chief executive, Richard Scudamore, said: "The free-to-air highlights are extremely important to the broadcast reach of the Premier League; allowing the competition and our clubs to be seen by the maximum possible number of fans across the country.
"The BBC has done a fantastic job for fans of Premier League clubs by providing quality coverage and analysis across their programmes."
BBC director of sport Barbara Slater added: "We've seen audiences for MOTD grow in recent years and the programme remains one of the BBC's best loved and most iconic brands.
"The new contract will see MOTD celebrate its 50th birthday."
The BBC retained the rights with a bid of £179.7m.
The first ever Match of the Day was broadcast on 22 August 1964 and top-flight rights have switched between BBC and ITV since then.
Premier League highlights returned to Match of the Day in 2004-05.
The show is hosted by former England striker Gary Lineker, with Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson and Alan Shearer among the regular pundits.

Opening thread yes, rest of show, no. Our involvement in the opening credits last time was a quick Joe Hart celebrating and the Shrek's overhead shin.

Suspect next year it'll be Crouch's goal, Fletchers in the 1-6, and any other goal scored against us before finishing on a close up of the trophy where you can't see who's holding it.

Even the neutrals and anti-city commentators were orgasming when Kun scored the winner, it's as close a thing to a certainty as we will get to be in their new titles.

'The Premiership' on ITV seems like a weird dream now. Everything about that show was awful.

I just wish they'd freshen up the presenters and at least give some decent analysis.

I bet they will still show Rooney's bicycle kick goal in there though, don't think they can resist that.

Seeing as football is the only mainstream thing on tv worth watching (unless you are gay, a woman, or both) why don't they turn it into a proper football programme with longer & better highlights of the best games and have a few guest people involved who've actually kicked a ball in the last 20 years ? The games are so edited they mostly give a warped idea of what actually happened & some of the best football gets cut out. It needs to be longer.

I'm sure the Steven Segal film will get just as many viewers if it starts an hour later.

They could put a short, edited version of MOTD out on Sunday morning for those who prefer it.

The MOD formula is flawed. Everyone uses it to see what happened in games they usually know the results of. So they want to see the action. And all but vicars' aging aunties, and even some of those, will have had a drink, so will be sleepy. The last thing you need is a move being rerun 3 times while some plodder tells us what even my missus can see for herself . shearer et aL ARE FECKIN REDUNDANT imo

Absolutely. There's no way it will be a City-dominated title sequence. And Shrek's overhead punt off the shin will 'justifiably' crown it as the greatest Premier goal of all time. What a joke.

With BBC3 and the red button, since everyone will be digital by then, they could have the current format on BBC1 and something kite closer to what Sky do elsewhere. At least then you could watch some decent highlights if you wanted to without having to pay for Sky Sports.

The current format is stuck in about 1970, especially with the 'look away now' on the news beforehand. What football fan manages to avoid the results until 10:30? I can watch the goals on my mobile at 5pm free and legally.

Alan Hansen is truly one of the biggest ball bags I have ever had the displeasure of listening to give an opinion on our beloved game.
The drivel he spouts about us is ridiculous, he is completely anti city

By getting angry, you’re doing zero harm to them while simultaneously hurting yourself even more. That doesn’t make much sense, and is a waste of your time and energy. Overreacting tells the people around you that you can’t be trusted to deal with important issues.

I agree to an extent. But on the other hand I also think that letting off steam is part of the appeal of watching football in the first place. On balance I think the anti-insert name of knobhead pundit here rants and tirades let more stress out than a hansen would create.

Match of the day is a poor poor waste of licence payers money. just look at what the planks on that show earn and tell me its any more justified than hazards agent pocketing 6million or whatever he pocketed. the bbc can fuck off as far as i am concerned, as from next month i wont be paying for a licence and i shall be telling them why. (no telly). yes, its as revolutionary as that, because three minutes of skewed highlights aint good enough.
