Van Persie not extending Arsenal contract

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I don't have any fears about how he would fit in, just whether he'd be available to actually fit in or in the treatment room & personally, I can't stand him.

Also, we could see how well a half fit Tevez linked up with Aguero. Imagine a fully fit one ? If Tevez goes, we are losing a unique player (admittedly a twat but we would be replacing him with a City hating twat).

If Dzeko goes, we are replacing a younger prolific scorer with a good injury record, with an older prolific scorer with a shit injury record.

There are a lot of reasonable arguments for not doing this.

A fully 100% fit Van Persie would be phemomenal though, I'm sure of that.

RVP is a brilliant player, when fit and on his day. He'd score plenty for us, I am sure of it.

I'd rather stick with Tevez or pursue Cavani. I was very keen on RVP a few months ago, but there are too many good arguments, not least age, that have changed my thinking. Cavani is 25. We should go after him if Tevez or Dzeko are leaving.

Pretty good point if you ask me.

They are paying for the Emirates in extremely tight schedual and once they are debt free from that they will have fantastic fortunes to spend. I very much agree with that approach in their case. It was always going to mean that they'd be out of the genuine title challenge for ten years or so.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

MODS - how about a vote on this ?

A vote would be an excellent idea. I'd do it myself if able.

Van Persie's record makes grim viewing (bar last season of course)

111 games in 7 seasons with his first 6 seasons goals being 5, 5, 11, 7, 11, 9

Avoid imo.

Whatever the schedule for paying for the stadium surely the original plan did not involve selling players of the quality of Fabregas, Toure, Clichy, Nasri and Van Persie.

The squabble over the shares was all about securing the future revenue stream -not paying for the stadium. Arsenal owe their participation in the CL this year to RVP. If he leaves they will do well to get out of the group stages and even better to get back in it the year after. That revenue stream will be fooked and paying for the stadium will have to wait.

But the alternative to RVP not signing up sounds like big investment from the club on mega players, doesn't it? In that case they have the option of keeping him and spending loads and maintaining their position, or losing him and not having to spend loads, and hope Wenger can pull a few more rabbits out of an African shaped hat. You can't have 1 player dictate your transfer policy.

RVP is the solution to what problem, exactly? Wouldn't he just create another one? Gut feeling is "no thanks".

Maybe not, but maybe they would. At 25, I think he is ideal.
