Patrick Vieira

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

This is a great appointment. Vieira is hugely respected throughout the game and the young players will find it an honour to work with him.

I always remember the footage of the City changing room after the 2011 FA Cup Final, and every one of our players wanted their photo taken with Vieira and the trophy - just goes to show how much they all admired him.

It's great that he's part of our future plans - great move by the club.

This is great news, sounds very much like a future first team 'head coach' in the making.

one thing that Mancini unquestionably did right, was bringing vieira to City and then making him part of the club management structure.

Thumbs up for this. I reckon Paddy will work miracles with those kids. Instill that winning mentality he always had.

Only thing that bothers me is that according to all the reports and some autobiographies I've read, Vieira was shockingly lazy in training as a player. Doesn't necesserily mean anything as far as management goes though.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Yes that was a shock. Maybe Soriano had a gag on while Mancini was here?

Reding it back and still raging from the feelings I had last Friday sat at my desk awaiting the trip to Wemberlee.

The statement is all we need to know why the sacking was done..

Ferran Soriano said: “Patrick is a world champion and it is a great honour that he has chosen Manchester City to begin his football management career. I have seen him carefully considering options and choosing to coach for the best reasons; he has a love of the game and a willingness to continue to learn and transmit his knowledge and experience to young footballers.”

Patrick’s role is of the highest long term importance for the Club. The ability of the Academy, the Elite Development Squad and the First team to work together using the same football concepts is key to our success and sustainability.”Manchester City would like to offer their best wishes to Attilio Lombardo, who stepped down from this role, and to thank him for his work with the EDS over the last year.

They are moving to put a City man in the role instead of a manager appointment.

Best of luck to him

I notice it doesn't say "in his new role Patrick will report to Brian Marwood as Head of the City Football Academy"
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Could it be that Marwmeister is finally backing his bags?

Because they realise that Marwood is an incompetant peice of shite.

Great move by the club, have had the 'pleasure' of taking part in the santa strolls every December (usually the day after a heavy session) and he's allways been there chatting and talking to anyone and generally just being a really aproachable guy.

Who couldnt be inspired by him - legend on the pitch!

The other one left ages ago. Mancini released him. The other one hasn't even had a contract with us as far as I know.

I think we still have Andy Cole's son with us though.

Good question! Doug?
I think he might've left with rest of the Taffia.

mmm
Mancini wasn't coaching the EDS though so not sure what you mean

I'm wondering what is Marwood's remit other than overseeing a building project?
Holistic (apart from meaning being nice) suggests "joined up thinking " so why isn't the development squad part of the city football academy? Unless they think (as I do) that Marwood isn't up to pissing and chewing gum
