I also keep hearing that 'agreement' is near about the equalisation of the TV money in Spain. That can only have a bad effect on Barca and Real.

It depends where they see their future. Not equalling the cash will lead to lower interest in the league itself and thus lower sums for future tv-deals. That's not a problem though if they see their future in an European super league

But if they want to remain in a Spanish league and maintain interest for it next to the arguably more competitive PL and the Bundesliga, equaling the tv-money seems sensible.

We should be chasing the kids in South America that Porto, Benfica and Shaktar are scouting now. Add Athletico into the mix too. Hopefully Cheeky is on it. I'm bored of acting like a cunt when we don't sign a big swinging dick. I don't want us to pull an Arsenal, but i'd like to see us buy some 16-20 year old talent that's closer to maturity than most realize but still under the radar a bit...like we did with the Nasty.

I was thinking about our scouting in South America recently watching the Confed Cup. Is it even existent? Two players in the last... err, ever. We buy Fernandinho (28) who's not part of the Brazil squad, then Shakhtar sign his replacement (21), who is part of the national team, for a third of the price. We should get in there, there's always the possibility to loan these youngsters out until they're good enough/get a permit.

Not for me.

Fernadinho first, then Navas, then Isco but now a striker is more important.

Isco can't do what Fernandinho does & isn't a proper winger. He's not that quick either & is not very good when not in possession. Great potential, a brilliant eye for a pass & can beat a man, but he can't run with the ball at pace like Fernandinho & Navas.

We can't start signing loads of players from South America, they wouldn't get work permits. We are picking up one or two here and there. We have at least one Brazilian kid in the academy. If we start taking the piss, the government may shit on us when we find a top player.

He's spelled out that he particularly wanted these two & I recon he's telling the truth & City fans should be excited. His comments about Fernandinho 'turning defence into attack' for instance; that's how I see him, not as a defensive player but a bloke who can spring like fuck from midfield, like Rodwell did v Norwich. I would play someone like Barry behind him & perhaps Yaya next to him.

I wouldn't trust him as a dm anyway but as an attacking outlet, I think him & Navas could be scarey. Silva & Nasri need to up their games imo, because I could see a possibility for playing without either of them if they don't.

Would still like to have signed Isco though & hope we do get someone similar.

I'm not even talking about kids, never mind loads of em. We could sign young internationals (even u21 internationals) without a problem. The next Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Aguero, Tevez etc etc
Vuoso & Geovanni are the only senior players we bought off South American clubs.

The kid Bernard for example. Are we looking at him? Should we? What do you think?

exactly what i'm thinking...fucking Bernard. Have i seen him much? of course i haven't. watched one goddam match and saw him on some highlight reels with the buck toothed freakshow.

But the point is....someone will be scouting in south america pretty thoroughly i'd guess...and i'm surprised that we don't sign more 16-19 year old kids from south america. Maybe someone should just call bullshit on me and point out that we have done that and the fruits of our labors are a couple years away, etc...but i just don't see that from a perusal of rosters, EDL shit or Dougie's training reports.

am i wrong? i'd love to be.

Can't sign a South American player till their 18, unless their whole family miraculously decides to move to Manchester, and we know what scum pull that trick.

The answer is that we most certainly know more about Bernard than anyone on here on in the media, because we have a scouting department in that part of the world, so seeing as he is actually an international, he isn't even one of the difficult ones & we will have been evaluating him & have info on his football ability, whether he's a potential alcoholic or fat boy, if he likes to pick up young girls or shag grannys or his brother's wife, etc etc. And so will Real Madrid, Barca, the Italians, PSG, Arsene Wenger and all the usual suspects.

It's likely that we will try to take a gamble on one of these players over the next few years, & Barca, Real, Napoli, AC Milan, etc etc will all be interested in the same bloke & his agent will phone all of them before agreeing to sign for us, just like Isco's will have done. So when he signs for Barca, someone on here will start the topic 'why the fuck weren't we in for him ?' but then if he ends up at West Brom because he doesn't make it at Barca, they won't start a thread saying 'what a waste of fucking money he was'.

There may be more than one prospect & we might get the good one, or Barca might get the good one, & we get a duffer, then someone will start a topic of 'why have we bought this wanker when the rags signed Cliff Cloggley from Bury for half the money ?'

Bernard has looked pretty good to me what I've seen of him. Good enough to play for City, in the Prem ? No idea & it will be a difficult call for anyone to make. Someone could get a great signing or a total duffer. It's a pure gamble unless you've seen him play in Europe.

The Brazilian lad in our academy looks pretty shit hot though.

Just to add; Isco & Thiago, for Spain's U21's, were not as good in any game, as Abdulrahman was against Uruguay etc in the Olympics.

But we can't get a work permit for him either, & if we could there is no guarantee he would make it in Europe.

you and your fucking details....

let me just do the maths...based on Slim's correction of my commentary and Ted's post about how we'll every scouting dept is (which i'm not trying to refute....it's a simple argument that's bound to be true):

A player turns 18 and by then has been found to have something or not, maybe, potentially. And every team knows about him.
A player with the potential to play in Europe then likely gets snapped up by Porto, Benfica, or Shaktar potentially or plays in some South American league for a year or two so we can keep watching him grow. Depending on the investment model that the player ownership team has for an exit strategy determines how likely they are to let them go to a smaller club or wait for one of the big boys to get wet underpants and want to fuck (e.g. Fernandinho vs Neymar)

My point was just -- why don't we start taking more flyers like those Portugeezers and Ukranian/Russian teams are doing? Is it a statutory thing about work permits? Surely there is a reason. Right?

cheers

Another reason could be third party ownership. Which is allowed in those leagues but not in the England. It was one of the reason Falcao was never going to end up in England. There were three or four different parties that owned a piece of him. In order for him to come into England all of the parties involved would have to agree to sell.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle believes Gareth Bale would be better off heading for Manchester, rather than moving abroad, should he leave White Hart Lane.

Bale's outstanding form last season, which saw the 23-year-old named PFA Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year, has resulted in him being linked with a number of Europe's top sides, including Real Madrid.

But Hoddle, who made over 300 appearances for Spurs, feels the Wales international midfielder would be better advised to remain in England, at least initially, with Manchester United and Manchester City potential destinations.

The Sun reported Hoddle, speaking at the Fans' All Star global vote launch, as saying: "If he does move, I think he will settle easier at another club in England. The only ones he can realistically join are Manchester United and Manchester City.

“He could get Champions League football there. But I want him to stay at Tottenham."

Hoddle did, however, tip Bale to thrive in Europe after he has gained more experience, adding: "He is still young enough to secure a move abroad later in life when he could cope better with it.”
