When Were We This Bad?

Postby Beefymcfc » Sat Sep 28, 2013 5:14 pm

Without looking I'm wondering when a start of the season was so bad? Don't get me wrong, I'm positive about this season and know that it's very close 'cos we're all dropping points but I'm just wondering if this is the worst season since the Sheikh came in?

Who had the best starts recently, Sven, Hughes, Mancini or Pellers?

Remember when we amassed one point from the first eleven games under Ball?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Yes. And the fact that we are even talking about Alan fucking Ball tells the tale.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I was not concerned until i saw Pellegrini away record, not good reading.Lost his last 5 away on the bounce at Malaga conceding 20 goals. His away record now reads 1 win in 10 games and we haven't even played anybody who could be classed as top 6 yet "" gulp""

Just a few things to sort out and we'll put this start away from home behind us.The centre back pairing has let us down a couple of times now and I don't think Pellegrini knows quite what his best pairing is.I think he would have said Nasti and Vinnie but it was them who made the mistakes today. At Cardiff it was the keeper and Zaba mainly at fault.

It's hard to allow for individual mistakes so maybe it's dead simple, stop those and we start winning games. We were never great today and it looked to me like Edin and Negredo isn't going to be a great partnership.Having said that we were leading Villa twice and that should have been enough to win especially as they were missing their best 2 attacking players.

That was a bad one today for us fans to take so it needs a win against Bayern to make up for it.

To be fair, Pellers had aleady been tapped up well before those games and the team already had wind of it;they'd given up with everything that was going on.

Just had a quick look and it looks like it's our worst start in the league since Hughes took over. We've been great at home (apart from the 1st half in the Hull game) so this says to me that it's not all about the manager. Maybe some of those fancy arses can tak some of the blame, unless Pellers told them to take it easy.

Yesterday we were fresh from humilating our greatest rivals and champions and a very impressive performance in the cup against a side that beat us in a major final last season and everyone was talking us up for the league and people were starting threads about how good our squad was.

24 hours later and people are comparing the current side to the Alan Ball regime.

We are one of the better teams in a league that not one team looks like a league winning side. We have lost two games this season, both times we beat ourselves.

No doubt if we beat Munich we will have a travel thread for the final by Thursday morning.

And what's the problem?

This is a major talking point don't you think, 2 losses and a draw away from home so far, do we carry on this way? We had plenty of discussion last season when we lost a game and all from the players to the manager were to blame, some even blamed Khaldoon.

It is worrying though, the manner in which we have dropped points.

It is indeed but not something that cannot be fixed. If we continue in this vein then of course questions should be asked. Call me old school but I do not think you can swap managers / sign 4 major players and expect everything to slot into place from day 1. Is it any coincidence that the top three teams this time tomorrow are the teams that kept their manager from last season?

When were we this bad? Most of last season. Parts of the season we won the league and every other season before that I have been alive.

We were shit away far too many times last season never mind the god awful performance in the cup final. There have been some positives this season. Also our performance today was better than against Cardiff or Stoke. Still to concede three against two bottom half sides just isn't good enough. Nasty has to put his hand up for the free kick. Of course it was a great strike but against these sides pretty much their best chance is free kicks so giving away one stupidly in a dangerous area is a no no. Both Vinny and he share the blame for the third and Joe too for rashly coming out of his area where he couldn't use his arms. The first goal was offside of course.

I don't know why it should be all about the manager when the link between last year and this is the players. Unless, and I put a large question mark about this, Pellers told thm to stop playing then it's more than just the manager.

Just a thought.

One I agree with actually, the mental strenght of this side is very questionable. The same group of players over the past three years seem to go hiding when we go behind against the run of play, don't seem to want match the commitment of the oppostion we go to teams like Cardiff or Sunderland and Southampton last season.

Today the same group of players thought they were home and dry at 2 - 1. We beat ourselves today.

As usual the point you make are valid good insights. Individual mistakes have been high up on the list of problems. One of my rants recently was about us seemingly not taking the oppo seriously enough. Ok big games we step up to a level that is bordering on sublime, but the lesser teams are not seeing that City so the general tone is too relaxed and individually that manifests itself in mistakes... mostly caused by inattention or lack of total focus.

It now seems to me that this is the main problem. No-one is going to say that if we put in the effort we showed v the rags that it would not have simply blown, Cardiff, Hull, Stoke and Villa away.

If we go and beat Bayern it isn't going to prove anything is it? Because we could just go to Norwich or wherever, underestimate them and lose.
