I just can't understand why Darren Gough always rims Welbeck. He should stick to talking abov cricket because he knows nothing about football. I think i'm going to stop listening to it because Adrian Durham or whatever he's called constantly wanks over the rags.

I used to be an avid listener but since I can't get it here I've not actually missed it. I was back last week and had it on a few times but it just seemed to be a Rag love-fest, so off it went.

As long as you know that it's there to get hits and that they don't mind winding fans up then you're OK. Some presenters are decent, some are atrocious (Colin 'Fucking' Murray, come on!) but there's still too many Rag sychophants invited to preach for me.

That brain-dead self-praising arse-wipe Gough, with his inability to string a coherent sentence together, is reason enough to avoid listening to it.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

RE: Wellbeck, I think he's a lot like Milner. Not showy, seems like a nice kid, a well-grounded lad, and works his bollocks off for whichever team he finds himself in. I don't mind him at all if I'm honest, save for the fact that he plays for Stretford.

I thought he played well tonight, making a contribution at both ends of the pitch. He's not the most graceful footballer or the most natural finisher but I think he's effective in his own way. A bit like Dirk Kuyt, if you like.

My favourite was a couple of weeks ago listening to a programme about how women aren't given enough respect in football and how they should be brought into it more - hosted by the dogging, woman beater Collymore.

Agree on this. There has to be an end product. All Welbeck is at the moment is another Emile Heskey. Nice bloke, grafts for them team but no end product. Before people harp on about assists and team play lets not forget a forwards job is to score goals & if one of them doesn't do that regularly enough it then puts pressure on rest of the team. Last season rags got lucky RVP was awesome. He carried them to the title. They will not be as lucky this time around

Other fans teams should always see what a striker brings.

Gareth Barry occupied spaces that attackers could potentially run into. He often slowed the game down and dictated the play when we needed him to.

It is understanable that some fans didn't notice or appreciate fully his role.

I see what he brings but imo it's mainly connected with physical attributes such as pace & workrate rather than the kind of football ability or intelligence as shown by Barry.

The fact that such a player can get a first choice start for England nowardays, & is deemed necessary in our setup, is not something which fills me with cheer.

Horses for courses.

There will be times when England can afford to play two of Ox, Walcott and Townsend on the flanks as well as Rooney and Sturridge up front. Other times, when we need to muck in and when the opposition carry more of an attacking/counter-attacking threat, Milner and Wellbeck are more use in the wide berths. I actually think Roy has used them all brilliantly, and at the right times, and that they're all safe bets for the plane to Brazil. They all bring the added bonus of genuine versatility too - Walcott and Wellbeck can play up top through the middle and Milner and Ox love playing at CM. Townsend looks to be very two-footed, so I'm guessing he's at home on either flank.

As for mentioning Wellbeck in the same breath as Gareth Barry, it's true that GB is a much better player with the ball at his feet. Nevertheless, one thing I reckon they share is a good understanding of what their duties are out on the pitch and the discipline to focus solely on these. They're both happy for others to get the headlines so long as they keep getting selected. I've got a lot of time for players/people like that.

Like I say; I have no problem with him personally, it's just watching him miss the target from 3 yards which makes me wince.

I agree. That snap shot at the open goal last night, for instance, was utterly wank and fairly typical of him.

That said, I don't think we should worry too much about how many he bags while he's playing out wide and, moreover, I think his England goalscoring rate is actually quite good overall.

He's far from the answer in striking terms but he'd provide decent emergency cover there in a World Cup squad whilst getting on with the job he's doing at present.

We always seem to end up with a raft of last-minute injuries every time we get to a major tourno.

But how the fuck have we ended up like this ?

We used to produce footballers who could take the piss out of Robinho when it came to ball skills but we have chosen over decades to promote the workhorses, so now we produce workhorses.

But I see it changing a bit. The other young players in the squad last night (Townsend, Sterling, Wilshere etc) are a bit more enterprising. Wellbeck is a far less gifted player who would now be playing for Hull City had he not been well coached/managed by Bacon and, latterly, Woy over the last couple of years, allowing him to find his niche.

Far from being the most disastrous England squad in decades, I actually think we're on the verge of striking a nice blend of experience and youth, graft and craft. A proper squad, which the 'golden era' (pass the sick bag) never amounted to. Rodwell and Ox will be useful additions if they can get fully fit by spring and stay that way thereafter. Morrison at WHU is also an outside bet if he can cast off his twattishness and keep doing the business for BFS.

Plus Terry and Ferdinand are history, which is nice.

Oh I'm not disheartened by the current thinking behind the England squad & I've mentioned on here that there do seem to be one or two players starting to appear in the younger England teams who actually look like footballers.

I just don't get why there should ever have been a problem in the first place. The so called experts at the top of English football, & their many 1000s of cronies, have done such a disservice to the game in this country, for so many years, that there should be something the oppsite of a medal that can be awarded to them (some posthumously).
