Dzeko - 50th goal

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Dzeko - 50th goal

Postby Bridge'srightfoot » Sat Dec 28, 2013 5:18 pm

There seems to be quite a bit of animosity towards him.
He often looks awkward on the ball but his scoring rate with us is fantastic, I'll bet his goals to minutes ratio is up there with anyone.
Seems quite an enigma, often looks slow, out of place and disinterested but then it's so often him who scores a big goal for us, like today.

Worth keeping imo. Would you get rid if Valencia rumors are to be true?

EDIT - Also that was his 50th goal for us. Fair play Edin.

As I said in the match thread, is there a better third choice striker in the league? He scores important goals. Love him.

I think Pellegrini will sell him in the summer (I haven't heard the rumours, I tend to live in a cave at Christmas so I'm out of touch with media etc). It wouldn't make sense selling a settled striker in January when we have injuries (if the rumours are about a Jan sale)

I can't see him wanting to leave to be honest.

Top of the league (at this moment)
Semi finals of League Cup
knock out stages of champs league
FA Cup to come

I saw that Valencia were meant to be in for him, was surprised and if he did go, not sure why he'd want to go there. I suspect if it was considered he might be interested in a move that other more attractive offers would be presented to him.

He really is a confidence player and is capable of sublime pieces of skill at times. That header today from the byline which just went over was a great effort for example.

But he always looks uncomfortable on the ball and often frustrates everyone with his (lack of) first touch.
Then he'll go and stick one in the onion bag.

Pointless selling to a CL club (cup tied)
However, he seems to want to be in a team that is set up to his strengths. If he wants that, it's better for him to be at a club that aspires to CL qualification, rather than one that aspires to compete on several fronts.

Yeh I thought that initially, but when I saw the replay felt that as he got a lot on it he should have scored. But things look a bit easier in slow mo I guess

Hmm, not so sure, it had a lot of pace and he hardly had any angle to work at and really had to arch his neck to send it goalwards.
Commentators thought it was a great effort too.

I guess we all see things differently.

Actually I think we agree, kind of at least. Agree the cross certainly had some pace on it and worth noting his movement and anticipation were spot on.

I think he got a good connection on it (a difficult skill to execute considering the pace and angle) and having done so I suspect he might have been disappointed he didn't get it on target.

Fustrates the fook out of me and Garcia aside he's the one player I scream at to up his game. Then just like today he grabs a goal when we really need it. Still for third choice we cant complain. Would be lovely to get Jovetic fit though to see an alternative.

I wonder how may of his goals were 'important' ones (I know all goals are important, but he tends to score game-changers for us quite regularly, either winners or goals that get us back into matches)

I'm sure I heard them say he had 9 goals from 14 starts (10 from 15 now). Not too shabby. Unlike others, I want my defenders to defend and my strikers to strike. He does that so no complaints from me.

Doesn't get enough credit for the equalizer vs QPR to be honest. Rightly people laud Aguero as he got the winner, but Dzeko deserves some credit for making it possible.

Why is this thread not called Dzonkey?

He always gets the ball in the net somehow but that's 5% of his game, rest if the 95% he is shit, just purely simple garbage ... no first touch, can't hold the ball up, can't seem to make any useful runs behind the opponents, is lazy as hell, what else ... can't really think of any positives ... only reason he scored is he gets good service behind him and most of his goals are simple given to him on the plate which anyone standing there would score really.

Best goal any striker can score is the winner in a tough 1 nil game. Well done Edin.

Didn't have a great game correct but some of the criticism he gets is way out of order. Near me he was getting screamed at for not getting to a ball or a cross when it was absolutely nowhere near him at all. Guess it's just the way it is for some players that they will be blamed even when he hasn't done anything wrong.I am sure some of the same fans were criticising Lescott today for poor passing !

CIT DIF Revenge..... theres a little job for you here pal. Have a goosey gander and see when he's either come on to score a winning goal or a crucial goal thats turned the game around for us. Cheers

Just back from the Palace game and agree completely. One incident stands out: ball came to him from defence, he was just outside centre circle and had his back to goal. He tried to lay it off to the RB but his pass was so dire it went out for a Palace throw. He's utter garbage. All the fans near me spent most of the second half getting increasingly frustrated by his poor touch, wayward distribution and laughable dribbling skill.

If we get a half-decent offer in January we should sell without hesitation.
