Douglas Higginbottom wrote:Haven't see too much of this thread but I find it staggering ( I don't really because it's always the same when we don't win) how the same old players get stick whether they deserve it or not.

It needs to be understood that all players cannot have the skills of David Silva and when they don't do what he would do it doesn't mean they deserve to be shot. Garcia did his job pretty well today as did Lescott. They had jobs to do and did them.Shame they didn't find the penetrative ball to assist for a goal but they did their jobs.

We had plenty of players out there today who arguably didn't do their job very well.Silva for one had a weak performance,Negredo was close to shocking but credit for the goal even if it was a tap in.The problem today was the overall team make up and shape.Milner tried his heart out as usual but he isn't a real winger and needs wide players, full backs included,to play with.Neither of the full backs today can do that.

BBurn had plenty to do with it as well of course with their set up and energy to close down. Our two front men were well handled. So it's a draw and we will beat them in the replay. Next

Excellent post. Some bollocks being spouted on here as usual.

We tried the same system with the non-attacking fullbacks against Palace and we saw how that worked. Think it's becoming clear two areas which need strengthening in summer

No way should that be a weak back four. Boyata fair enough, but he did no worse defensively than our usual fullbacks; that all get skinned several times per game.

I want to know why no other defender than Lescott heads a fucking ball in our penalty area. The 2nd best defender was Dzeko.

It was easy to defend because we did not have overlap fullbacks witch also space in midlle because players go to double up sides

Shame about their goal. Terrible defending by Lescott & Pantilimon, who were rather solid otherwise.

Nastasic was diabolical today, heading the ball uncontested to the oppo or our players under pressure (Garcia) on numerous occasions, unnecessary fouls, jogging back casually & letting them cross in the end. Diabolical. Boyata did alright in the first half, but that second yellow was beyond stupid. Can't have a substandard player let the team down in that fashion, get rid asap. Have never seen the fuss about this kid anyway, just not good enough.

Thought Dzeko was one of our best players today, but reading through here you'd think he was gash, the mob basing their verdict on vague bullshit like body language. Laughable.

I would force Clichy to stay behind in training for hundreds & hundreds of hours to practice some crossing. Offers fuck all going forward, even Boyata did much better in that regard today.

Edin does get his head on the ball a lot defensively doesn't he.

I mentioned earlier that they don't want long haul flights to the uae.

This is better, a chance to drop prices if Blackburn agree.

They defended well though. When the fullbacks did go forward, Blackburn covered them. They worked really hard keeping Milner down to only an occasional cross & worked really hard stopping Dzeko/Negredo when the crosses came in.

They made us work for goals and did their jobs as many Prem players don't.

You could see how pissed off they were when Dzeko Negredo got free touches for the goal.

He does & he did well all game for me. Not easy today at all. Today was what I want to see from Dzeko.

Silva usually misses those & Negredo's imo was not as easy as it originally appeared. The ball was slightly past him on his left & it's not easy to flick it back in when at full stretch.

The goal was a double mistake, by Lescott & Pants, but it had been coming. Blackburn kept getting free headers & heading them straight at the keeper.

It was a pretty lacklustre game today but we are allowed that once in a blue moon. I'm quite happy as we are still in the Cup. A few players did nt perform today but I thought Dzeko was pretty good. It's an extra game to go to which is a bonus.

A player of Silva's calibre and technical ability shouldn't be missing those and at the very, very least should be hitting the target.
If that was Dzeko we'd be slating him for it.

Just quickly browsed through the whole thread ... how come no one had mentioned what the commentator on BT said (not Owen, the second guy with him) that City wanted to take off Dzeko but got the numbers wrong so Negredo went off instead ... Typical City!

We have got too many perpetual sicknotes in the squad and I am getting f* tired of it. Because of this the choices we have are limited and this means we have to use Beast & Dzeko together - which - apart from todays goal - doesn't work - and also Sid out of position @ RB .

Guidetti - if he was EVER going to be given a game - or at leats 30 mins - then today was the day. Why not ??

EDS - there MUST , SURELY be a couple of kids we could have tried today - at least Lopes/Pozo/?? One of these in attack wth EITHER Beast or Dzeko should have been tried.

This was one of Dzekos better games . Pass of the match in the 2nd half. The guy actually RAN too - quickly at times . . ..
