THere will probably be other players that can play with Kompany on par with or even better than Lescott. Don't worry. I'm not taking anything away from Lescott, dont get me wrong, but it's not like he was king kong or anything like that. He was back when we won the title but that's gone now. Probably at least.

Plus Pellers want the type of playing centre back like Kompany and Demichelis are. It may not be right but it's what he wants.

I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

We have all seen he can't pass, one good game won't change that and i don't think we should get carried away.
Garcia played like NDJ yesterday for gods sake! They all had the day.

I agree to a certain extent that there's not a lot of connecting the dots going on. We had Demi in front of our defence against Chelsea and regardless of whether or not that worked out to the best, Garcia was miles better than him. Of course the defence is going to have an easier task of defending.

On the other hand, the defence has to be credited for having had a good game no? Lescott was part of that defense no? And except for that situation that led to Kompany's card he was pretty much spot on no?

Vinny definitely calmer yesterday. Was like a cat on hot tin roof in first game. Would love to know what he really thinks about who his defensive partner should be. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he thinks Lescott. I still remember a little scene from the end of the Arsenal game towards the end of out title winning season, the Balotelli game. After the game Vinny, Lescott and Hart were together on the pitch for ages, it's totally made up by me but I'm sure they were telling each other that they weren't going to let any of their bastard teammates lose this title for us.

Amazing how he gets singled out when in reality he was no better than any other player on the park tonight. They all did very well against a Chelsea side who played exactly like we did the last time we played against them...they were under par by a long shot.

Barcelona will not be anything other than excellent on Tuesday , a different kettle of fish altogether.

Lescott did well, but it was his mistake that led to Kpmpany's booking. He seems a player that everyone finds it difficult to make a balanced judgement on, either he is rubbish or a world beater. I think he probably is the best we have at the moment, but not the best we can aspire to.

I think a lot of people can make balanced opinions on Lescott or Nasty for that matter but they tend to get drowned out in all the regurgited noise that cloggs up the forum from time to time.

I think Subotic but his teammate Hummels is probably more Pellers style.

I'm a massive Subotic fan but, given the style of play we've now adopted under Mr Pellegrini, I'd rather hang on to Lescott and, with the money 'saved', spend it on another creative/attacking player.

Hate to point out the obvious mate but silva got mom at the stadium, yaya by itv, Garcia on here so how is he getting singled out for a good performance?

And barca would likely tear any defender a new arsehole, they have the best player in the world in their team.

If we have one weakness I'd say it's the lack of quality at centrehalf. Hummels, Subotic, Zapata or Mangala would make us infinitely better in that position. Even with signing one of them, I would hold onto Lescott as well as our depth is almost laughable. Demi I wouldn't even hold onto as a 4th choice, I think he has patches where he is an average defender with no real weakness but too many times he has cost us by diving in or attempting to cut out or finding himself undecided between taking the man with the ball or the obvious passing lane. I'd be happier with Boyata as 4th, but even happier if someone like Mathias Bossaerts were ready for the step up, but I think he is still very young.

Here he is training with the 1st team.

Okay, might just be warming up, who knows....wait, DOUG!

Aside from that we need to start looking for a dynamic midfielder to eventually replace Yaya(yeah, like anyone in the world can replace him) and add depth to that position.
