Never understand why people don't realise that nurses could just become professional footballers if they wanted to earn the same money. What's that, that haven't got the same talent as a small minority of the world's top players? Maybe that's why they don't earn the same then, you dumbasses.

Remember we arent their rivals either - very true, Southampton are their rivals for 7th spot.

For a player who has questionable 'refuelling habits' & not the best injury record, is a forward, & will be 29 years old in Oct, (two months after the start of the next season).
And it's City, who are ruining the 'structure' of football, with our 'inflated' prices.

Well said. They appear to be spending their way out of the shit they're in and it's a very risky gamble to take. It only means they fall much faster and harder if things don't go their way.

They have to spend their way out. It's the only option for them right now. No actual youth system or plan. It isn't even ironic based on the cultural accolades they get for their youth, babes, etc but it's almost criminally cynical. It is as if someone did this to them -- they seem so ignorant to the facts and the process. Desperate stuff.
Moyes and the money men will fuck up their buys too I believe. This should be a fun couple years.

You're right of course, they have to spend big to compete. But if they were sensible, they'd relax and accept they're not going to compete for anything for a few seasons, take stock of what they've got and identify some excellent young talent and begin to build again. Unfortunately for them, their fans, half of whom who have never experienced the type of failure they're about to witness, will be foaming at the mouth for heads to roll. They'll miss Champions League, stop selling their stadium out their troubles will snowball from there. Moyes out!! only to hand the poisoned chalice to the next poor bastard and the managerial office will be fitted with a revolving door to make it easier for all the comings and goings. We've seen it happen all too often. One wrong slip up and they're properly fucked.
In the meantime, we continue our ascendancy. Our academy will open soon and judging from the article in the other thread, we'll be churning out a 'class of 92' every other season. Let the good times roll.....

I don't think it's that big a job to turn Utd round to be competitive at the top end, at all.
They have fixed it so that we can't completely wipe them out quickly, due to ffp slowing us down. So now, with all the new sponsorship deals etc, all they have to do is spend for a couple of seasons, then get back to the penny pinching afterwards. They can do that & still pay off the debt, just have more of it.
Spend for two years & pick up a few bargains to fill out the squad (Lescott/Barry for a start, cost= zero). Add that to Rooney, RVP, Mata, Jizzjam; they wouldn't neccessarily be in the top 2, but they would certainly be fighting for it.
They could do the job & still have 50 mil to spend on a star striker. But who will Moyes sign & who wants to play for him & can he get them to play properly even if they do sign ?
There lies the question.
pepsi_dave wrote:Thing is, they can't she'll out in the summer. The premier league FFP rules kick in at the end of this season (I think) which limits clubs from increasing their wage bill by x amount. I think in their case, they are already in the higher bracket, and I think they can increase their wages by £4m per year. This can only be exceeded if the club improves their matchday revenue. Considering they'll be in Europa this will be unlikely, and therefore limits how much restructuring they can do.
Best part is, they voted for these rules!
