Poll: Lescott Or Demechelis?

Postby King Kev » Wed Feb 19, 2014 7:06 am

Personally I wouldn't allow Demichelis in the ground but driving back from the game last night I heard several people on the phone-in saying that they think he is the better of the two.

With Vinnie - Lescott, that sliding 'fowl' seems to be Demi's trademark, surprised we haven't seen him walk sooner.

I'm well and truly on the Lescott side, tho it's a tough time to start a poll for the ones pro Demi.

Lescott is a better stopper but Demechelis is better on the ball. Its all about what you prefer.

Horses for courses.
I know i'll get hammered for this but I thought MDM did ok in the first half. Yes he gave the ball away but he made some vital interceptions too.
The most ridiculous comment of the night came from a lad in the family stand berating Pellegrini for picking Demechellis over Lescott, when he has no pace!
I'm a massive Lescott fan but pace aint his greatest attribute!!!

It's a simple question that has only one answer - Lescott.

Lescott is the better defender now, and he was the day Demichelis signed. It really bugs me that we have put up with mediocrity for so long whether it's playing Nastasic or Demichelis. The amount of goals and other chances that have happened because of mistakes by these two is ridiculous. Demichelis is nowhere near as bad as Nastasic but he's still not good enough to be a regular for us.

Lescott is by no means perfect, but he's a far better option. Furthermore, Kompany's peformances significantly improve when he partners Lescott.

If last night doesn't sway your vote one way, I don't think you're a City fan.

lescott. Because he is better than MD, but not a whole lot better, just slightly better.
The truth is neither of them are good enough in fact the three of them are not good enough.
If we could superglue nasti lescott and DM together we might make one decent centre half out of the lot of them!! lol.
This problem is ongoing for two seasons now.

Well Demichelis is suspended for the return leg and assuming Nasti won't be fit (?)then Joleon will be played.

It will be interesting to see how he does? DM does look more comfortable on the ball so I suspect Barca will target him early on in order to get him a yellow card (like they did with Kolarov last night).

I have often wondered why Joleon has been overlooked by TWO managers now, particularly when both DM and Nasti have both fucked up...... Could his being overlooked come from further up the command chain? Or is it simply been the stubbornness of both managers to play their own signings?

Personally I voted for Joleon (on the basis he would be paired with Vinny)

Joleon should've carried on his good form from the previous Chelsea game. No good reason for replacing him with Demechelis.

I saw the DM signing as a padding out of the squad, we need class next to VK and we will see his game move on to another level, as we are he is covering for average partners, Last night Demechilis, was working his tripe off to survive, he was always going to be found out at some point if they could get at him and like all big games fine margins decide matters, he has been a top player but should not be exposed in games like last night.

I also happen to think we looked average at full back again last night. I love Zabba he is just not top level on the ball as we saw last night, Glichy is the same never the same player as in the Premier, where we dominate.

I think Lescott would have struggled last night, so if the poll was for last night's game I would possibly vote Demichelis. In most other games I would vote Lescott.

I dont understand the obsession with wanted defenders who are good with the ball or play better passes, yes these are great skills and attributes to have as any player but if you cant defend there is fuck all point in them! I voted for Lescott because when it come down to it I trust him more to defend, i dont care if he doesnt start an attack off as well surely thats what our full backs are for and vinny has shown time and again that he is capable of it too. Demichelis is not good enough to do the job he seems to have been asked to do and if we dont have anyone who can then when it comes down to the basics i trust lescott more

Mdm is much better on the ball, lescotts panic last night where he did a shocking back pass in a panic and gave a corner away from almost the half way line. You will never see barca do that. We need a ball playing centre back not a good old fashioned english centre half.

Both are not good enough which is why pellegrini will buy in the summer however we have to choose one whilst nasti is injured so I go for 3 at the back :-)

It wasn't just down to Demichelis though (altghough he was fucking hopeless for the pen) Zabba & Navas were just as bad previous to it. Playing that nervously, we were never going to get away with it for 90 mins.

It took me about 15 mins to realise we had fucking had it. Had Lescott played, it probably would have been him getting the shit now for a different incident. Barca were going to win, because we weren't at the races & one of the defenders was going to fuck up.

Unfortunately for Demichelis, it happened to be him.

He was fine for 10 mins and then he was hacking like the lad who watches and gets a game, to be exposed as a watcher, he had no composure and looked petrified, Zabba no composure, Kolarov offered nothing and Hart did some stuff that was crazy shit one pass to Vinny with him at LB was mind blowing, we lack composure and we need better quality in a few areas.

Demichelis is good at one thing defensively: herding a player into a less dangerous position. However, in doing so, he often jeopardises the defensive line, and I don't think he plays regularly enough for the rest of the defenders/midfield to adjust to be able to fully compensate for this. He also messes up the formation when he misses with a lunge, or the ball ends up at the feet of an opponent after he makes contact.

I prefer Lescott. Not neccessarily because he is the better player, but because the rest of the back line can go about their ordinary gameplan with him in the lineup.
