The premier league FFP rules kick in at the end of this season (I think) which limits clubs from increasing their wage bill by x amount. I think in their case, they are already in the higher bracket, and I think they can increase their wages by £4m per year. This can only be exceeded if the club improves their matchday revenue. Considering they'll be in Europa this will be unlikely, and therefore limits how much restructuring they can do.

Best part is, they voted for these rules!

That's pretty interesting observation, one that I wasn't aware of.

It would be fucking ace if this fucked them n year 1 of the new FFP because of their own failure to qualify for the champs league.

Just tried to do some more digging, turns out the rules kick in at the start of 15/16 season.

The increase in wages is limited to £4m per year, and can only be exceeded if sponsorship and or matchday revenue increases.

Sanctions for breaking these rules are transfer embargoes or points deductions.

My understanding is pretty limited to be fair, would be keen for some who understands the rules better to shed some more light on this.

Either which way, how sweet it would be for united to essentially fuck themselves over.

Can't say I understand it any more than you do, but I do think that FFP is going to change drastically as the establisment clubs find that it's not doing what they wanted in relation to competition and is restricting them.

Apologies, but didn't know where else to put this and it made me chuckle:

The most satisfying thing is that it wasn't a gentle decline to where they are now, it was instant :)

I agree with most of what's been written already and I have great satisfaction when a Rag colleague wants to have a pop at me over recent results to remind him of their league positon and direction they are moving.

I think it will take at least 3 years to get them back to their better days but I don't think they will reach the peaks they use to reach ever again.

To repeat others, which top players will want to come to a team with an unproven manager and a decline in fortunes. There going to have to develop lesser mortals and thattakes time. hehehehehe

If the stuff about the ffp coming in after next season is right, then we can expect the rags to blow an absolute shitload of money in the summer, for the reasons mentioned; otherwise they will be in the shit regarding rebuilding their team. They will lose Wio, Vidic etc off the wage bill, so will want to get in replacements for those for a start.

Arsenal & Chelsea will probably be at it too, so we will no doubt spend a bit.

In the end, though, there's got to be a decent chance that the courts will throw out ffp in its present form before it even gets properly underway.

Utter madness. He is the Ricky Hutton of football. He will be washed up by the time he is 30.

In the last five years we have been accused of over paying for players but we will get 5 of the best years out of Silva Toure and Aguero. United have paid silly money for a player with no real sell on value who may have peaked 3 years ago.

Exactly, a woman at work said after the Barca game 'I dont suppose you want to speak about football today, do you?'. I replied, 'Its ok, but you won't want to talk about it all year will you?'. She didn't talk to me again till going home time.

Have to laugh at how they bow to his demands every time, clearly the United board are very desperate the way things have been going this season. No sense in paying that kind of wage to Rooney he's an important player for them but that's just silly money, half of it would be more than enough for the hungry fucker.Hats off to Rooney he's playing them like a cheap fiddle.

How many new contracts is that over the past 3-4 years he always seems to be holding them to ransom.

Rooneys wages calculating in real time, nearly turned my stomach watching it accumulate at such a fast rate.

Another good point about this is that now the 5-6 players they need in the summer will all want 300 a week too - and if they can't get it at the swamp, then they'll just try across the road ....
