I'm not overly sold on Valdes - couple of times against us he looked really dodgy particularly on crosses, the sort of thing we have plenty of in the Premier League. Hart has somewhat redeemed himself and we should focus on a centre half and left back than worrying about the goalkeepers position

For what it's worth and having spent some time now around the club it's clear that the keepers have to be able to play with their feet and to a high standard. City want the keeper to be an outlet and as comfy on the ball as any outfield player.

IMO this is an area that let's Joe down and one that VV excels in. If though and this is a big if they are looking to replace Joe the person I would chose is Neuer. Prob the best keeper in the world and the best without a doubt with his feet. Would we get him though, not a chance.

Neuer is the best keeper in the world. Outstanding with his feet and his decision making of when to come off his line and when to not

If Valdes was a lesser keeper we'd be through to the next round and not Barca. Simple as that.

disagree as it wasn't Valdes who ensured we went out, it was poor finishing, individual mistakes at the back, players under par and poor tactics in the 1st match

I am no big fan of Joe, but IMHO Valdes best days are gonna be short, if not already gone and on current form and new attitude Joe is the future.

Decent backup, would rather have Hart as a starter. Now Casillas... he might be good enough to start IMO.

Get a replacement for Panti who is content to start the season as second choice , but talented enough to challenge Hart and keep breathing down his neck . Maybe Mac Donald at Hull . Don't spend big on another big name keeper - save the $$$ for more defenders - e.g. Mangala

Only as back up please, but he's too good for that.

Joe will get better and better, he's already better than Valdes.

This would be a downgrade transfer and in 2-3 years who are we going to turn to to come in as number 1?

Is this another of Pellegrini's stubbornly firm convictions, either that Valdes is the best around or just that Joe isn't good enough? I think Hart should be City's goalkeeper for years to come. He's got youth on his side, he's English, and if VV got the job over him Hart will be off to one of City's rivals, to their benefit.

Hart's among the worst distributors of the ball and I believe he isn't at all better than valdes.

I'm with you Doomie. This season has taught the boss(es) bad things about our keepers.

Don't disagree about his distribution but I would've thought that this season has taught the bosses some good things too, for example Hart having the strength of character to pull himself together following a dip in form and start performing at a high level again.

So maybe it's an upgrade going with Hart and Valdes instead of Hart and Pants?

I would tend to think so as I believe the competition wouldn't allow Joe to become complacent again but I take on board others points about the possibility of Hart getting pushed out and us losing a homegrown keeper.

If Valdes did sign, then it would become clear to us whether City played better football with him there, & whether his general keeping was as good or better than Joe's.

If there was a marked difference in our ability to pass the ball out from the back & the general keeping was of a similar standard, then it would be fair enough for Valdes to become No1. If however he was obviously inferior as a keeper, I hope we wouldn't go down the road of having a bloke in the team mainly for his passing ability, if he is not as good at his actual job, like we have done with the central defenders.

I think we might be hedging our bets, Lemons has said a few times he needs first team football to keep his international career alive so it is very possible he might finally make a move in the summer. I also think (if there's anything to it) that his nationality means it's Lemons on the way out rather than Joe.
