FIFA WorldCup 2014

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Great for MdM....don't think he will have been expecting that!

Good for City that both him and Fernandinho have seen moves to City get them back into the mix for their international sides. Unlike those French pricks led by the water carrying tit....but that is strictly their loss.

Beast and Jesus will both benefit from being involved. I predict good seasons for both at the Etihad next year.

Disappointed for Nasri - he's had a great season and deserved to showcase his skills at the World Cup.

But from a City-perspective, it means he'll get a good rest this summer and will be fit and raring to go next season.

Goalkeepers: Mark Birighitti (Newcastle Jets), Eugene Galekovic (Adelaide United), Mitchell Langerak (Borussia Dortmund), Mat Ryan (Club Brugge).
Defenders: Jason Davidson (Heracles Almelo), Ivan Franjic (Brisbane Roar), Curtis Good (Dundee United, on loan from Newcastle), Ryan McGowan (Shandong Luneng Taishan), Matthew Spiranovic (Western Sydney Wanderers), Alex Wilkinson (Jeonbuk Hyundai), Luke Wilkshire (Dinamo Moscow), Bailey Wright (Preston North End).
Midfielders: Oliver Bozanic (Luzern), Mark Bresciano (Al Gharafa), Joshua Brillante (Newcastle Jets), James Holland (Austria Vienna), Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace), Massimo Luongo (Swindon Town), Matthew McKay (Brisbane Roar), Mark Milligan (Melbourne Victory), Tommy Oar (Utrecht), Tommy Rogic (Melbourne Victory), Adam Sarota (Utrecht), James Troisi (Melbourne Victory), Dario Vidosic (Sion).
Forwards: Tim Cahill (New York Red Bulls), Ben Halloran (Fortuna Dusseldorf), Josh Kennedy (Nagoya Grampus 8), Matthew Leckie (FSV Frankfurt 1899), Adam Taggart (Newcastle Jets).

A necessary squad en route to 2018 - phasing out all but a couple of our golden generation and bringing in the new. Hopefully Spain, Chile and Netherlands take pity on us in our transition and it won't be a bloodbath.

The Dutch squad is quite young and underwhelming as well. At least the preliminary 30 players selection is, but i doubt that the final 23 will set the tournament on fire.

Most awkward decision ever. He had the best season at City by far and gets the cut by that manager of his.

Same with Clichy. If you want to bring other type of players in your squad, take out the so called mercenaries, you don`t use Nasri all the way and then you get rid of him, but keep Evra or other twats they seem to have.

To be honest, Nasri has a bad boy reputation in france and mud sticks, Didier Deschamps will have taken council on what happened at previous tournaments and if it was me, I would not want a trouble maker with my squad no matter how bad he was, unless he came to me personally and gave me absolute confidence he would not cause any unrest.

It would be great for Demi personally if he made the cut & had a great World Cup, as he had a fucking nightmare under the fat clown, & became a bit of a laughing stock.

From our point of view, it would be better if he was rested in time for pre season.

God luck to him though.

Very much looking forward to this. Generally don't like regular international football but love world cups. Best competition out there imo.
Reckon England might scrape through the group stages but as usual we'll get knocked out on penalties.

Very interested to see how Belgium get on also.

Belgium, if Hazard and Lukaku click, are dark horses for me. Very good first team with good back up

Rekik in Dutch squad after 'outstanding season'. Is he going to save us spunking 20 million plus on a centre half?

Most on here who've seen him a reasonable amount say Nyet. Also the limited time he's played for the first team supports that. He isn't a child anymore either is he? By this age he should be doing it if he ever will.

Aye. Reckon they'll have a good tournament and maybe reach the semis.
Want someone other than Spain to win tbh, their dominance has become a bit boring.

To me the World Cup is and always has been the absolute pinnacle of football and playing in it should be a player's greatest honor. We saw how much pride other sportsmen had at the Olympics and you can see how much pride the rugby team has for representing their country. I just hope we see the England players actually looking like they care and playing for the shirt. Won't hold my breath though.

I'd love to see Belgium win it, but if Argentina, Spain or (chortle)England get to the final I'd be happy to see city players on football's biggest stage.

How can England possibly fail when we have Jones and Smalling at the heart of our defence? You could stick the rock of Gibraltar in there and it wouldn't do any better.

Chile and Belgium good outside bets for at least making the semi's or final if they get a good draw.
