Spurs Fans.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Walmai,
The year we got relegated and had a relegation party at the Boleyn was brilliant and it put my faith back into football. When the Hammers fans invaded the pitch and chanted City to us was unbelievable.
The funniest was watching the police who had been trained to separate fighting fans, they hadn't got a clue how to handle everyone getting on with each other.
In the 60s our Charlton game was called off, so we stood with your lot at Stamford Bridge...We were made very welcome.

My best day out at WHL was in 1968...the 2nd last game of the season. We beat them and it cleared the way for us to win the League at Newcastle. There were loads of us and we just wandered into the park Lane End (I think it called that) and they all pissed off sharpish....I was young then...:-)
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

I got out of a scrape outside of Maine Road once, by referring to that story.

A friend of mine was living in Victoria Park at the time and I'd visited him the same time that City were playing Palace at home. There was a lot of bad feeling during the match because of an appalling Palace tackle. As we were leaving, there was some chant or other about 'cockneys' and, being a young fool, I turned to suggest that Palace weren't cockneys at all.

'Palace in our fooking stand' rang out. Thinking a beating was on hand, I quickly lifted up the front of my jacket, to show off my previously hidden West Ham badge on a Morrissey/Smiths T-shirt. I don't know what solved it for me, the badge or the Smiths shirt, but the fella who called me out shook my hand and we walked away from the ground discussing that night a season or so before.

I personally don't recall anything of the like happening before or since.

Always personally loved Maine Road; The Kippax was a fantastic stand.

i've always found it weird how city fans really hate spurs fans, surely it doesn't go back to 81? That would be so bitter. Maybe its because we're both clubs of similar status, and they always beat us!

no way mate. growing up in the 70s, my recollection was that we beat spurs every time, home or away; they were some soft touch. a bit like sunderland now, what is it, 14 wins from the last 14 or something daft? only into the 80's and that nasty cup final thing did spurs start to edge us. we do register a win here and there. now arsenal is different, our record in horrendous, way back to about 1970. we have won the last 3 at home, but it was about 1977 the last time we beat them.

Maybe they suffer from a "London is England" syndrome.

I'm pleased to not see my team mentioned in yr post (IIRC you were there at that famous mid-80's match between WHU and MCFC?)

The thing I'd say about Spurs is that, in fairness to them, they've changed the least out of those you mention.

Both others, but especially Chelsea, were a very different proposition even up to the late 80's (when Arsenal started challenging again for the title after a fallow time). Arsenal were a part of North London and the burbs to which their support had escaped to. Chelsea were notoriously racist in the 80's and nastily violent up until their 'renaissance' under Matthew Harding. Nowadays, their fanbase has little to do with the area in which the club is based.

The same goes for Spurs, but only to a degree. They are the fanbase most similar to West Ham; they stretch out into the Home Counties, because families have moved that way, but they're still a 'London club'. I shouldn't really, but I respect them for that. My cousin's a Spud. Happens that he was in the away end, when you lot invaded the pitch during that televised FA Cup match.

I know quite a few West Ham fans , and i have to admit I like them , I think they are genuine down to Earth just like us really, the thing that annoys me about Spuds fans , which has already been mentioned is they think they have a right to win everything bit like rag fans I suppose , I also know quite a few spuds fans who live near me [ it only takes just over an hour to get to north London] and I dont particularly like their arrogance.

I personally hate Spurs fans because they all condemned Jesus to death, even though he was one of them.
