It's not about whether he's over it now, it's about what that incident & others did to him then, basically ruining his confidence, & his chances at City, & he has barely played regularly in his position for ANYONE ever since.

He has missed all that time when he should have been learning and gaining experience, being passed around from one club's bench to another, his career has basically been stopped & his reputation gone from a potential star to a fucking liability, all through being thrown into the team, in the wrong circumstances, before he was ready.

When asked to play v Chelsea at fullback, he wasn't nervous or shit, he was hard as nails & fucked Drogba off on several occasions. It was chucking him into high pressure games at centre back, & the ensuing mistakes, which fucked him up.

At Bolton he was largely played at right back and this was in an appalling defence that was completely disorganised and not fit for the PL.

After that experience, coupled with Bolton's relegation, it's no wonder that his confidence was at a low level, at that point in his career.

Personally I don't think he'll ever make it at right back. I saw him there a couple of times last season and he never looked like getting behind a defence. You might say that the first job of a full back is to defend but nowadays full backs have to be able to overlap effectively; it's not an optional extra.

So centre back it is then and we'll see. Every City fan will wish him well but football's a very hard business. Most promising young lads never make it at all never mind to the top and City is right at the summit. Denayer looks a much better bet for the moment.
