***Official Match Thread: QPR v City***

TEAM NEWS

Joey Barton and Nedum Onuoha could both return for QPR against their former club Manchester City after recovering from hamstring injuries.

Midfielder Jordon Mutch is also fit again, but Rio Ferdinand misses his second game of a three-match ban.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has been ruled out with a calf injury suffered in the defeat by CSKA Moscow.

Frank Lampard has recovered from a thigh problem but David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov are out.

MATCH PREVIEW

It was against QPR that Sergio Aguero scored his stoppage-time, title-winning goal a couple of years ago which will always bring a smile to City fans' faces, but this trip to Loftus Road looks trickier than it would have done only a month or so ago.

Recent results have been patchy, with one win from the last five in all competitions, and Wednesday's performance in the Champions League in losing at home to CSKA Moscow was way below what's expected.

It certainly increases the spotlight on Manuel Pellegrini and his team, who aren't firing on all cylinders and obviously miss the creative input of their injured string-puller-in-chief, David Silva.

City may have one more point than they did at this stage a year ago, but they certainly don't look like a better team at the moment.

They have a mixed record this season following Champions League games with a win, a draw and a defeat in the Premier League. Their away form hasn't been bad at all with 10 points from a possible 15, though they did lose their most recent game on the road at West Ham a couple of weeks ago.

QPR will be glad to be playing at home again, as all of their points so far have been won at Loftus Road.

They will see this as a good time to have a go at the champions and their recent performances have been much improved. The last three matches have seen them push Liverpool hard before losing to an own goal in the closing moments, beat Villa 2-0 and then give a decent account of themselves in a narrow defeat at Chelsea last week.

Harry Redknapp has called for more of the same in terms of effort if they're to get out of trouble and stay in the division. It would certainly give them a fighting chance.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last four Premier League meetings with QPR (W3, D1).

When the teams last met they played out a 0-0 draw at Loftus Road on 29 January 2013.

There have been five red cards in the last eight league games between these sides.

Queens Park Rangers

All seven of the points earned by QPR this season have come at Loftus Road (W2, D1, L2).

They have won only two of their last 19 Premier League games.

Six of QPR's last seven goals have come in the second half.

Charlie Austin has now been involved in six of QPR's nine goals so far this season (five goals, 1 assist).

Manchester City

City have lost just one of their previous seven away matches in the Premier League.

They have scored in all but one of their last 23 league matches.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have not lost any of the last eight league games when David Silva has been absent (W6, D2).

Sergio Aguero has scored 11 goals in his last 12 Premier League games.

I like that lineup better though I would prefer Zaba in there.

Huge game now. The points are almost secondary to the performance and the way we set up after Wednesday. Another performance and sloppy play like we saw against CSKA and this would arguably be worse than a defeat but a whole hearted showing. Its about character now for me as to whether we keep pace with Chelsea. We are good enough technically. It remains to be seen whether we are good enough mentally.
Happen to think we will come out and show what we can do and banish the ghost of Wednesday

Shite as Zabba has been, changing him for Sagna with Vince missing & Clichy on the back of a disaster is asking for more fuckups re offside line etc.

Mancini used to do that kind of double change trick & it often fucked up. Hope he gets away with it.

How Pellegrini has not picked Milner yet selects Navas. Absolutely baffling.

I think he's probably giving Jimmy a rest.

I'm going for a 3-1 away win.

Milner has played a lot of games recently. I think that's why he is rested.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

Did Danny Mills ever see the inside of the dressing room? Seems the perfect person to give the anti-City slant.

"I don't see Manuel Pellegrini having huge authority in that dressing room. I don't see him demanding the very high standards like Sir Alex Ferguson did, or Jose Mourinho does. He reminds me of Sven Goran-Ericsson. Does he really have that ultimate drive and desire to push people on?

John Hartson, on the otherhand, actually talks a lot more sense than the sensational bollox that Mills does.

"It's absurd that Manuel Pellegrini won the title last season and three months into the new campaign people have been talking about him getting the sack. City have not been on a great run of form, and there is all this talk of underperforming in the Champions League, but how many years did it take Chelsea to win the Champions League? How many years did it take Manchester United? It takes time."

Yaya pushed forward with Fernando and Fernadinho behind him. Amazing we might end up outnumbering QPR in midfield because they're playing 4 in midfield and two up top.

navas has got to show us his pace today, needs to get the ball and go straight pass qpr players and cross the ball, not get ball go 10 mts and then wait till a couple os qpr players close him down.

Phew, just had that horrible feeling that during Mancini's season we actually lost against QPR at theirs. Just checked and it was 0-0, what a relief.

QPR are hard to beat, this will be a tough game.

I'm happy with the theory of the formation but let's see how we actually line up.

No Dzeko again, Manuel must not be impressed with him in training.
