I was never his biggest fan, but I never quite got why the Count put him in the ice box the way he did after this pre-season. he's still a young lad and surely he has better potential than Boyata? Perhaps they were looking at resell value and realised that Boyata would bring us next to naught?

Boyata also has HG status.

I'm not gonna miss Nastasic but I too would like to know why Pelle left him in the cold

Perhaps Pellegrini reckoned that he wouldn't be suitable for the high-line, high pressing game he wants to play.

Nastasic always struck me as almost a throw-back to the old and now seemingly obsolete 'libero' type of defender.....although he certainly would never, ever be in the same class as the great Franco Baresi, but then who would ??

Pure speculation on my part but I believe the reason he was frozen out is simply because Pellegrini felt he couldn't rely on him. The only thing I have to back that up is a response Pellegrini have to a question about Nasty's fitness last season, he seemed exasperated with him when he responded that even the doctors don't know what the problem was.

That's my feeling too. It would explain his spectacular fall from grace at City. I'm only speculating also, but I thought there was more to it than just form.

I can only assume that he is doing OK at Schalke for them to tie this up now rather than waiting to the summer when others could have come in at market price, or am i talking bollocks.

They play 3 at the back, which suits him better & was imo probably the long term plan & why he, Savic, Rodwell, Maicon, Kolarov & Javi Garcia & possibly even Sinclair, were signed.

We could probably play that now with Mangala/Vinnie/Demi, and Milner/Navas the two wide players - just not in the Prem though.
