Players Back the Count

Postby Ted Hughes » Thu Mar 19, 2015 12:05 am

According to Joe Hart:

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... -0-8872286

City hero Joe Hart has given a strong show of support for under-fire manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The England number one single-handedly stopped Lionel Messi and pals from racking up a rugby score at the Nou Camp last night.

And he then suggested that anyone calling for the head of the Engineer – who is under close scrutiny from the club hierarchy – is wrong.

“We back our manager. He is a great manager and brought us two trophies last year - now we have nine games to win, and that's what we hope to do,” he said.

“It's always going to be the same at City, for all the players. We appreciate that if we don't win everyone will be speculated about. You have to be strong inside.”

Hart emerged from a sobering night for City with his reputation enhanced – and it was the latest in a line of fine displays by him in the Champions League.

He was brilliant at Bayern Munich earlier this season and came up with crucial saves at Roma – and he has performed equally well in previous seasons.

But many thought this was his finest moment, even if Hart was hardly going to agree, straight after a defeat.

“It's difficult to say tonight, because we are out of the Champions League before the quarter-finals – we'll talk about it another day,” he said.

“I am a proud man and take pride in my performances, and the day I come off the field and am not proud of what I have done is the day I will question myself.

“Even when we lose, even when I make mistakes, and it's all my fault, I am still proud of my efforts, and of my team – and we will keep going.”

One save, a close-range block from Messi, was described by one pundit as the best he had ever seen, but Hart's verdict was simple: “The one where he smashed it against my chest? I just tried to be as big and strong as I could – he is awesome and I fully expected it to go in, so it was a nice feeling.”

It was a bittersweet night for Hart, as City missed a great chance to capitalise on his display – and his penalty save in the first leg – as Sergio Aguero missed a penalty.

“Sergio scores goal after goal after goal for us, and I can't say one bad word about him – he is a phenomenal player,” said Hart. “But I thought ter Stegen had a brilliant game for Barcelona and topped that off with a save from the penalty.

“It's disappointing – we gave ourselves a chance and didn't take it.

“I had a lot to do, but I wanted it to count. I said that after the first leg, and it hasn't.”

Pity they back him in interviews where they're full of who we're going to beat next, but can't be arsed to back him on the pitch.

Yep, they have backed him into a corner. He is now finished at City after that shocking performance.

Actions speak louder than words.

If we fail to beat WBA on Saturday the crowd at The Etihad wont be quick to back him. 3 wins in 12 games is shite for any team - for a team with our squad and resources its unforgiveable.

Unlike against Burnley, I thought it was the players own shortcomings on the pitch (rather than their attitude) that were on full display. I think the club needs to make it clear that it's whether or not the manager backs the players that counts now, not the other way round. These gobby cunts are really getting on my nerves.

Well if there's one thing for sure about City fans, when a team is struggling to stay alive, they certainly know how to get behind it; and push it over the fucking cliff just to make sure.

I think you're talking absolute shit.

Find a club that has fans that don't fucking absolutely shit their pants and talk loads of bollox when staring at the oncoming light at the end of the tunnel with a soundtrack of a large train piped in for good measure and i'll show you a fucking giant mountain here in Central FL that you can buy for cheap.

i talk to a lot of fans of different clubs just by virtue of where i live and how i came to love the game, and i find our reactions absolutely typical and normal.

If Gary James comes on here and says historically we are the absolute worst fans ever in a crisis, I'll listen. But i'm not buying what you're trading today, kind sir. In fact, it's more of the same tbh, and is the same non-knee-jerk knee-jerk.

Whaddya think of them apples, bub?

cheers

I know Pellers has to take his criticism also for the way things have turned out, but I actually think it should be the other way around.
The board should back Pellers and Pellers should back who he trusts and clear out those that he doesn't fancy.
The Players backing Pellers sounds like they are the ones calling the shots.

this.

the count came in and the players responded by winning the league. then after another chance to prove critics wrong do the same thing we saw under mancini.

you cannot say they were not given their chances.

as has been said, since our other targets for manager are not available anyway hardly seems like we will sack him unless we fall out of the champions league spots.

what players end up going is more interesting to consider.

some seem more obvious than others, and changing half the starting eleven may be a bit extreme, but 1/3 of it (3-4 players)? maybe

if i rated "legit" first team players (i.e. not boyata) we read or fuel speculation about ourselves on who is "likely" to "doubtful" on their way out i'd place them in these four categories:

likely:

jovetic
kolarov
yaya

somewhat likely:

nasri
dzeko
milner

maybe:

silva

doubtful:

aguero
kompany
hart

City fans are some of the most intolerant imo.

Every difficult spell I can remember, in the history of the club, they have made a situation worse by getting on the backs of managers & players. Often with good reason, but still no excuse.

The only time I can remember anything different, was the Joe Royle period & just after, when they finally realised the damage it does & started supporting.

The rags & Liverpool have had a few grumbles when they have been shit, but often last season rags sang non stop for Moyes & have done it sometimes this season for Turles' team. They have been pretty good at the games, considering the shite served up.

If our fans start giving the manager & team shit during games they are wankers imo. On here fine, at the games, never.

I hope they will show some class & try to help get us at least 2nd place & if possible 1st.
