If we are changing direction to get a crew in the back office that look like characters from a Clive Barker film then he's a great choice.

One time a manager came up and instantly hit the groynd running and was a huge success.

If I find examples of non league footballers making the grade and email them do you think I could bag a contract???

I don't know if Vieira has what it takes or not, but I do know that, apart from actual senior managerial experience, the training he has had for the role, is probably better than just about any other manager in history. He has been learning the workings of every department of the club, from the cleaners to the Chief Exec, & is still learning stuff now.

He is a multi title, World Cup winning, star footballer, one of the best midfielders ever to play in the Premier League, who has the respect of all the current senior players as well as the kids.

So how does he compare for qualifications, to Mourinho for example, when he started at Porto ?

Well apart from the one season Mourinho had as manager of União de Leiria, Vieira is infinitely more qualified to run a major club than Mourinho was, as Vieira has spent years training for it.

That doesn't mean he is ready or that he has 'it' but if he gets the job at some point, then the same blokes who appointed Pep, rather than Mourinho, will have decided he is, & he does.

It happened once so why can't it happen again? Or because it's only happened that once does it means it's impossible for it to happen again??????????

And if Zidane takes over at Real Madrid in the near future, most people will go 'ah right' but if Vieira takes over at City, then it's a huge surprise for some reason.

For me a big difference between Pep and Vieira was intelligence. Pep did not overly rely on his athleticism and physicality, he was a very intelligent player.

Vieira was a world class player but he was sent off many times, would he have the intelligence to compete with the most astute managers in the world?

IMO it's a huge and unnecessary gamble if we ditch MP for an unproven Vieira.

The idea wouldn't be to ditch Pellegrini yet, unless they feel he has given them no choice. It may not even be a plan to give the job to Vieira directly following Pellegrini. He could go somewhere else first, or work with Guardiola if he comes in.

But Pellegrini freely admits that he was a nutter as a player himself & had to work on changing his whole personality, so you've not picked the best example there. Then top of the league currently we have Jose Mourinho; nutter. Prior to that, the top man was one Alex Ferguson; nutter. I don't think Vieira has anything to learn from those two regarding self control.

Vieira seems highly intelligent to me anyhow, & did as a player. He also won trophies & titles at different clubs, in different countries, as opposed to Guardiola.

He may have been over passionate at times, but the way they wound the rags up & beat them to the title, was very clever indeed & also as streetwise as it gets imo. It was clearly nothing to do with Wenger & was led by people like Vieira & Keown. Since they went, Arsenal have been nothing.

Vieira imo would be somewhere between Mancini & Pellegrini. More agressive, occasionally losing it, but generally calm. However you look at it, he is already more qualified than Guardiola was when he got the Barca job.

I said it was a strong suggestion he was soon in line for a managerial job. That was the point of the thread I started on it.
