I wouldn't judge him on the last few weeks. I think it's clear to see his head has been turned and he doesn't want to be at Liverpool. Who's turned his head though is anyone's guess.

I'd take him for £10 million, not a penny more.

Id like him at City.
Milner is nothing to do with it. We can't control his destiny.

I can never decide if he's going a truly world class player or the next SWP.

Exactly that, as soon as he did that tv interview where he said he was holding off from signing a new contract (which would have seen a huge increase in his wages) because he wanted to consider what was best for him where winning trophies was concerned, has seen a significant dip in form - not surprisingly.

Last season he was excellent and he carried enough of that over into this before the 'tv interview' to tell me he is a top young player with a very bright future ahead of him. I'd take Sterling over Barclay.

For footballing reasons the question is, is he better than what we have and is he an improvement on the squad?

Yes, he is better than Navas IMO. Or Nasri. Or Milner. Pace, direct, takes a man on, English. There's a lot going for him.

That said, he has a price and whether he is worth it is entirely a different matter. We will pay a premium for the fact he is homegrown and we have money.

Would be very interested if he cost less than £30m

I don't get what some people have seen in him to believe he will be a truly world class player. I will NOT be happy if we pay big money for sterling

You'd pay the English premium for someone whose place hopefully could be filled by one of our academy in a year or two.
He could be another Walcott or the likes.
I'd personally stay clear of all the big money English players and promote our own.

This is the real conumdrum, we are only allowed 17 foreign players (same as everyone else) in our 25 man squad + 8 home grown & I think as many U21's as you like. Do we pay silly money to bring our squad up to capacity with home grown (Lampard, Boyata, Milner, Sinclair & Richards all about to depart & maybe Clichy as well) which would stand at one, Joe, or do we try & win things with a squad of 18 + the kids. I know what I vote for

I think he wants out. The dip in form came after the contract issue arose.

Hes perfect for us. I really hope we get him.

Guardian reporting we might be favourites.

Sterling is a decent player who would be an asset. The alternative to signing some decent homegrown players, if you think about it, is an empty space or sign some more shit.

We don't have enough kids in his position who would be ready in time for next season.

Sterling doesn't need to be world class, just good enough to be a useful addition to the squad. He's a level above the likes of Sinclair & Rodwell already. If he becomes a genuine top player than great. If he doesn't, we' ve filled a homegrown position whilst we bring some kids through.

He's certainly way better than nothing.
