Safe Standing at Celtic.

2,600 places being created using rail searing system.
Surprised it is such a low figure but Celtic say they have done their market research.
How is this going to map out? Interviewer on 5live put forward the suggestion if there is trouble it will take us back to the situation 25 years ago. Can't see that being a problem though.

Rather than Celtic's ability or otherwise I did wonder if anybody has any thoughts of our ground would lend itself to safe standing.
I think the bottom tier of the South Stand would be great to convert to this style. Plus I suspect there would be enough demand for say 5-6000 standing places.

What exactly comprises safe standing? Certain kinds of flexible abutments or structures surrounding the area to prevent a crush?

Shit standard 20,00 empty seats every home game big club big stadium, that's it.
Mancini is ripping the Inter squad to bits, they were shockingly bad last season.Celtic are always unlucky ! Big club travel in hoardes, still a shite standard.

That kind of idea

You would have to be the Incredible Hulk to succeed in hurting yourself or someone else in a crush, in that situation. Far easier to achieve it in a seated area. Likewise, it's much easier fora mob to climb over seats to get involved in a fight (as at the swamp reserve game) than it would be to all queue in single file to join in from there.

The objections to this are ridiculous & have no basis in safety or anything else. It is purely discrimination against football fans by our politicians. Protecting their own arses, in case some kid has an accident & a bunch of pathetic fucking scousers try to blame it on the standing area.

Good question, there are 2 levels, and standing is supposed to increase capacity, so I would have imagined it would be 2 per seat area? Anyone actually know?

Am I alone in thinking this is over the top bullshit. Folks can still stand in lower leagues, at rugby games and at concerts. How many stand on the floor at the MEN arena for a concert, all bunched up at the front?

Hillsborough was a tragedy there's no doubt about it. But it was a rare occurrence and standing alone was not the sole cause. Millions and millions of people have stood on big terraces over the years without a hitch. I'm not suggesting a return to a whole end or side of the ground dedicated to standing as I don't think there would be the demand for that, but both ends on the lower tier could be given over to standing in the old fashioned way of proper terracing with crush barriers. This would increase capacity and hopefully the atmosphere

No. One line. The only way capacity is increased in 'safe standing' areas is due to the stowable seats being slightly narrower than in a standard stadium configuration. This only increases capacity by an average of 12%. If a stadium were specifically constructed or redeveloped with safe standing as a priority, you could also add a couple of rows, as less legroom is required, maybe increasing capacity by 20-25% overall.

Fucking scousers are the problem.

They go away to European games etc & stand on terracing, then tell the rest of us we are not allowed to do it here, & politicians are so scared of upsetting the whinging fucking scumbags, that they dare not argue.

One of the Celtic fellas was on TS yesterday. It was all done on a straight one to one replacement.

But it's not simply a case of Hillsborough - I seem to be the only one that remembers the dire state of football in the 70s and 80s. There was Heysel, Bradford, Ibrox, Hillsborough - but there were also terraces full of yobs (yes like me), no familes no women no kids except yobs. Travel to the game was like a war

A whole range of measures was introduced which, together with SKY brought about the new seated footrball, vast increases in crowds and the top product we have today.

I sometimes fail to understand why people want to reverse that trend. Would you take your kids thgen some great fat twat is stood up right in front of them? Of course not - so those areas are out for kids and families straight away - and gone 'blokeish'

So if anyone convinces me it is now 100% safe, the only half sensible place to do it where 'the lads' go now anyway
