Sterling, oh sterling... what to say.... is he worth £40+++ million... worth a bitter war of words between league rivals... worth summer of wild paper gossip.....

Not really.

No question the lad has good ability, solid attributes... He's absolutely rapid, dribbles well, is positionally versatile and has the potential to develop into a far better player... but right now... he's a rough diamond with a big price tag.

I'm wary of buying a potential star when the potential is going to cost £40++++ million pounds... and double wary when the player he is now leaves me thinking "Young SWP was better"...

Just feels like the fact he is English in a market devoid of good Englishmen is sealing the deal here. Bloody hate quotas.

None of the players we are about to sign are worth even half what we are about to pay for them.

And who is responsible ? Us for paying 20 odd mil for people like David Silva or the rags for paying more than that for ageing injury prone Van Persie & 30 million fucking quid for a kid fullback alongside 60 mil for a 25 mil Argentinian wide player ?

Every fucking year those wankers have been in the Premier League, they have forced up transfer fees & wages & we get the fucking blame for it because we have to sign players according to their prices.

As soon as they spunked 30 mil on Luke Shaw, all English attacking players with decent potential became more expensive. And star players, such as Pogba, take their value from that & DeMaria.

But it means that even if City can compete, a club like Aston Villa or Everton never can, which is how the rags, Arsenal etc have been trying to keep it since the birth of the Champions League.

The rags & their ilk are just self serving cartel cunts & we have to pay for it.

Yep. It has always suited them to push the price of good players beyond the pockets of most clubs.

FSG will not be able to resist, money ball and all that. Interesting to see who's the best negotiators!

I dont think he's shit, I think he's a handful. But with Suarez and Sturridge out, he was the main man for the opposition to concentrate on, which has shackled him, together with his clear wish to leave his latest stepping-stone club.

At City he'll be just another player for a defence busy watching Aguero, Bony and Silva etc, maybe Isco. Should work well.

At first, I thought he was going to turn out another head first, charging English thickie, Aaron Oxlade Wellcott, but wih Suarez around, he showed a lot of football intelligence, & I realised I'd read him wrong. Last season he had too much weight on his shoulders; kids can't do that, it's not fair.

How good he will become, I don't know, but he will improve playing with our players, he's fast, he works hard, & he also fits in with the way ourkids play, so should combine with them in the future.

He is worth about 20 mil but will cost us at least double.

Absolutely.

However, I wonder if City are playing a longer game, insofar as we've now formally registered our 'interest' and we can go through the motions (via the media) of looking as though we want to negotiate further.

This will continue to unsettle Sterling, compound his resolve to leave ScouseScum and allow his December contract timescale to arrive just in time for the January window.

We should then get him for a more realistic price when all those machinations come into play........unless some other silly so-and-so's (SwampScum ???) come in and pay £50 million for him outright.

Just musing.

I think we will want to get it done. We will have a maximum figure & walk away after that if they don't bite I imagine. Then Chelsea will sell Oscar for 65 million quid & buy Sterling for 50.

I hope City play a long game with them, push the figure to close the £50m mark which means they will go and negotiate players to bring into their squad at inflated prices because of the Sterling money (see Suarez Transfer kitty) and then we pull out and leave them high and dry. Then release a statement saying they were just a decoy whilst we wrapped up the rest of our business.

I dont want sterling, I think he is very over-rated. Even the scousers think he is shit if you read their forums

Yeah now he's leaving.

When they won the title he was G.O.D. & Milner was shit.

I wonder if Loserpool would consider selling Sterling to the Scum, if ever they received a £50 million offer for him from that source ??

It would be a most difficult decision to sell him to a rival for the Wenger Trophy.

I hope we get him and don't have to go past £40 M . We need a wide player that can score goals as well as provide and he fits the bill much better then Navas.he might make it difficult for Lopes to get a good look in but we are not going to compromise are we?

I would like Isco to replace Nasri as well.

I agree with your sentiments Doug but I think Isco will replace Lampard or Milner.

Nasri has had a poor time and at the moment but is on a long expensive contract - I dont think we'd get much value for him. But I have noticed twice that our worst form seems to be not when missing Silva or Aguero, but Nasri. He is unconventional and unlocks doors. He should pick up again in a better squad and get some value back.

Looks like the Uefa home quote rule is going to push Sterlings price north of £35m. The thing is, if the home quota rule did not exist, Sterling would not command a fee above £15m. I seriously hope its paper talk about the bid, there are far better players available for a stupid price like that.
