Sterling is better than Navas overall, more direct, and more likely to become better.

Sterling is 20. Navas is 29.

There aren't exactly many Hazard's out there. Sterling however is the type of player we badly need and is available.

I agree with this completely.

Navas has pace. He is nowhere near as skillful on the ball as Sterling.

I must be watching a completely different Raheem Sterling than you guys as the one I see is more often than not a clueless headless chicken (albeit a very fast one). He can dribble alright, often into trouble and loses possession.

Yet according to the stats he has the third most successful dribbles in the PL after Hazard and Sanchez.

If he was great or potentially world class, he would have performed last season even if his head was elsewhere, to prove to potential buyers he was worth buying. Instead, he was mediocre overrated shite.

He was "performing" up until the contract issue came into the spotlight and he started getting flack from the English media who live in fairy tale land, hating on any player who doesn't go about things as they wish.

I guess we'll all see what happens. But labeling him "shite" is silly talk.

I believe he scored more goals than Ronaldo at his age as well or something to that effect. I found an article speaking of it here as well as other comparable statistics:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... asure.html

Verdict
The raw numbers have Sterling slightly ahead of Ronaldo at this juvenile juncture. But what the Portugal forward has gone on to achieve is sensational. He has, as alluded to at the top, reformulated football.
Sterling can have no better role model, no better target to chase down.

This does not mean he will be as good as Ronaldo, but to say he is "shite" or overrated at his age does not seem to be a fair assessment, and sounds fueled by other variables and biases.

Don't get the Navas comparison at all. Liverpool don't really hardly ever play with a genuine winger & Sterling has played half his games last season as a striker.

Mostly he plays for Liverpool as one of 3 forwards. Which is probably what we are building towards maybe for the season after next.

Don't get the Navas comparison either.

Sterling has also played as a wing back for a while and should be able to adapt to any system imo.

He reminds me of Gervinho when he was at Arsenal insofar as he looks great getting to the box and then it invariably goes to shit.

There's been some media talk of Benteke going to Loserpool for £32.5 million.

For my money, that puts Sterling's £50 million valuation into a more harsh perspective, albeit they are entirely different players.

Gervinho was about 4-5 years older than Sterling though.

Sterling is only a year older than Rony Lopez, 6 months older than Denayer. He was running riot through our defence 2 seasons ago.

If Lopes has half as good a season as Sterling did at the same age, I will be absolutely fucking delighted for him & I would hope most City fans would feel the same, & make allowances for the fact that he's a kid, if & when he fucks up the final ball or misses an open net. Very likely he & Iheanacho will do loads of shit like that if they get regular games in the first team; just like Sterling.

For an English 20 year old, that makes his price pretty cheap imo.

well his Liverpool coaching is shit then. As he takes far too many touches, not releasing at the right time and as for the stats on successful dribbles, I would bet his is TOP of the unsuccessful ones and his range of passing is shit. Anyone can spin the stats to read what they want.

We all have opinions and mine is he is a waste of a LOT of money.

Would you agree we need to buy an association trained player WW?

And if so, who would you rather pay an extortionate amount for?

I don't get what some people have seen in him to believe he will be a truly world class player. I will NOT be happy if we pay big money for sterling

You'd pay the English premium for someone whose place hopefully could be filled by one of our academy in a year or two.
He could be another Walcott or the likes.
I'd personally stay clear of all the big money English players and promote our own.

I'll stick with my original assessment.
I wouldn't have minded too much at £25m. £35-40 I think is probably what you pay just because he's young and English. Anything over that and I'd steer clear and hopefully promote our own to do every bit as good a job over the next few years. Spend the money elsewhere. Don't give it to Liverpool. They'll eventually buy someone decent.

I dont want to pay an extortionate amount. £50m is a world class figure, let Macclesfield have him.

If we're buying association trained it's going to be extortionate as the selling club knows we need it with Milner's departure.

Either that or we go with a squad of 19 plus kids.

You can only select a squad of 17 for each game, only 11 can be selected to start. If we spend that money on upgrading our current first 17 to better than what we had, we would be OK if we didnt get decimated by injuries. IMO from what I have seen from our academy, we have the resources to fill in the odd time when required without it hindering us. Use the kids in the League cup to reduce the number of games and go with a mix in the FA Cup. Prioritise the league then the Champions league and go with a full squad of 19 and let the home grown quota fill over time organically. I dont want to line Liverpools pockets with stupid money, let them fuck up and let sterling rot with them.

I'll leave it to the professionals since they know what they're doing - if he comes I'll be glad to see him and will look forward to his contributions.
