As Sterling, having a shitter, was better than Countinho on just about every single statistic available in every department.

I think Coutinho is massively overrated! Some of my Liverpool mates call him a wizard, and there's only one merlin and it's not fucking Coutinho! He scores some screamers that everyone remembers like the ones against us, saints and Bolton, but he's created few chances and scored few goals. I think he's got potential and is still young, but he's not as good as sterling and lacks the intelligence and vision that our Dave has

Also what are people's opinions on Barkley now? Last summer many were wanting to spend £50m on him but you could argue over the last 2 seasons Sterling has been by far a better player.

I'd snap up Sterling straight away, he's not going to be in his prime for another 6/7 years and this year he's been watching Rickie Lambert and Henderson in training, next year he could be watching Sergio and Dave! If we don't sign him then in a few years I think it's definetly one we will regret!

Huge pressure was put on his shoulders and his game suffered. Couple that with the fact that he was likely tapped up and wanted to be with us makes it a little understandable why he lost a bit of form.

Saying that, he was still one of the Dippers better players and you can imagine how the likes of Slippy 'G' and rude boy Henderson were treating him when the contract issues came up.

Giving the Dippers money though, now, that makes me shiver.

As long as Brenda is spending it, don't worry.

Sterling has looked relatively poor this season, but he actually created more goalscoring chances than the previous one but ended up with less assists as they were to Mario and Lambert, not Suarez and Sturridge.

Stick him on the right, tell him to take people on and then pass it to the stocky short bloke in the middle and he'll be fine. If things get tricky, pass it back to that little Spanish bloke who's always nearby and always in space for some weird reason, then start running and, as if by magic, the ball will reappear at your feet. Then pass it to the stocky bloke.

Very nice indeed; really made me smile.

It also reminded me of Jack Charlton and Bobby Robson who, as managers, never seemed able to remember the names of the players they had selected.

However, given your meritorious footballing awareness and gifted tactical acumen, as exemplified in your post above, have you thought about getting your CV up to date and applying for the City job when Pellegrini goes ??

You'd make Guardiola look like an absolute novice.

Perhaps, but he looked very ordinary against Wales.

So you're judging him on one game? In that case, Sterling is worth about 50p cos he was shitter than a very shit thing against Ireland

For 50p I'd have him. Try him out in the EDS and see how he gets on.

Just remember, it's a simple game. You can complicate it with formations and tactics and false number nines, but what it comes down to is sticking it in the net more than the opposition.

I always enjoyed Jack doing commentary - the big lad etc. Definitely better than the Ron Atkinson version

His pace in and around the box combined with Silva's passing could be a very potent weapon.

On that point I wonder what Everton would take now? Surely if he was a 50m player at some point he might get back there, how good would it be if we nabbed him cheap and he came good? That never seems to happen for us.

Imagine if it was us.

We would want full whack for him or keep him.

I think Barkley has serious talent. That doesn't mean he'll be a worldbeater but imo he has the ability to be. So if he was a City player, no way would I let him go for less than Luke Shaw, & I'd probably want the same money as Sterling. Or just keep him.

We're obviously in a different financial playing field than Everton tho. I'm just curious as to whether say we offerred them something like 28m would they be tempted.

I think they would be.
I'd say 20m would be way too much though for a player who is looking distinctly average now.

Barkley could have had his dip season. Martinez hardly ripped up any trees with his panic formations and rotation wit Europa, Barkley should be judged on what we know he can do not what Everton used him to do in a poor side. Take him all day.
