Wooders wrote:you joke about FM and Fifa etc but the truth is they do put a lot of work into their scouting system so it can normally be fairly trusted that if a player is good in the game, they've got something about them in real life too - Kompany was an FM legend a good few years back for example !

Yeah, I joke about it but many many youngsters who were good in the past FM editions have become internationally recognized players. Van der Vaart being one, as well as Kompany that you already mentioned. Vela was excellent in FM09 and he's not exploded just yet in real life but you never know with those Arsenal youngsters. Weiss is pretty good this year so who knows, maybe he will become a star in a couple seasons, lol.
since we are on the topic, has anyone heard about Jonjo Shelvey in real life? He's supposed to be a pretty good creative midfielder, according to FM10.
Wonderwall wrote:whats the ratio of FM players becoming as good as their potential? Probably the same ratio of academy kids who dream of playing in the premiership and actually achieving it. Which is very very low.

I'm not suggesting that FM is some sort of serious scouting program but the way they gather the information by thousands of assistants around the world makes it some sort of indicator especially in more obscure leagues. For example, I played last edition in Finnish second division and all the player ratings seemed to be ridiculously spot on. So I'd assume that for Russian league they'd have pretty good idea about regular players.
For youngsters? Well who knows about them anyway. I was always pissed off because Lee Croft lacked pace and workrate to make it and Micah had shit positioning.

he has shit positioning and a fair few shit mental stats ... but you play in RB and he is money. He starts every game for me and over 3 season (2x league champs) he's had 7.4 avg rating with a fair number of assists. He's just a battering ram on the flank. ;)
