Hi Guys,

Aston Villa fan here.

Absolutely gutted to be losing our captain, but understand that he is going to a bigger club for more money and championships.

A bit disappointed after his comments towards us when he signed in January but pleased to get a fee for him rather than him not signing a contract and going on a free.

I do worry for his career that he won't get much game time and therefore may not go to the euros next summer. But Man City have a player that will give everything he has on the pitch.

He won't stand out as a goal scorer and doesn't create as much as your star players but for 8 mil he is a great buy.

Again to reiterate, absolutely gutted about losing him but I wish Fabian and Manchester City all the best for next season.

Respect all of that. I kind of feel the same about micah to you guys, but obviously that's due to us not you.

I'm for some reason quietly optimistic about Delph. Id certainly rather him at 8m of we're desperate for home grown than go anywhere near sterling. Still maintain that money can be better spent.

I agree with this. 8 million is a great bargain if you look at what English players are going for lately.

We have a great track record of signing England nationals from Villa and I really hope Delph will follow in the footsteps of Barry and Milner - two of my favourite players over the last years.

Classy post.
I realise he's being viewed as a benchwarmer from the outside, but in all honesty he's (hopefully) an upgrade on Fernando, so he's a likely starter.
He could become the unsung hero. Win it, keep it simple and pass it.

Always liked the lad from watching him play for leeds. He's come on well and even though I wouldn't have considered him for where we are now, he's still got time to improve.

At that price its a no brainer and hopefully he can be as good as Gaz Baz.

This guy will do us no harm at all.I said about a year ago when people were taking the piss about him that I thought he was better than Fernandinho. He's not a better footballer but he's always in the action and never hides. I think we fans will appreciate his effort and occasional skill and goal scoring. A million times better choice than the injury prone and fatally flawed Wilshire at a fifth of the price. Good!

So do we sell Fernandinho? 30yo (or older), foreign player, frees up quite a bit in our squad???

Fuck no we don't. Difference maker in the last title win and looked back to his best in the Copa America. He's a classy bald son of a bitch.

Cheers

Deph is pretty good from what I've seen and fills a need, can still get games and will be here after our other 30 year old centre mids are gone. This is a very good value signing. We sold Rodwell for £10m. Wonder who's better?

Hellz no. When he was playing poorly early last season it really hurt us and we missed the qualities he brings to the team, particularly since he's partnered with Yaya.

Maybe after next season, but unless Pogba is coming we will surely need his services this year.

Perhaps we see Yaya pushed forward more frequently since Milner is gone, if Pellegrini goes with 5 midfielders more frequently as well, as we did late this past season. He'll surely get some cup games starts and, some against lower quality teams in the league and when injuries pop up as they have for us regularly the past few years.

Always nice to hear from a decent fan from other teams, please stick around like our hammers fan Walmai who pops in from time to time.

What's the latest your end about Learner and poss takeover? You deserve better than good old Randy IMO...

Good to hear from a seemingly decent Villa fan. But let's not pretent Villa fans deserve anything after the way they treated Barry on his return. Going to the lengths of printing out fake money with his face on, handing it out beforethe match, and holding it up every time he was near! Gang of bellends! Could never have imagined us doing that with SWP when he went to Chelsea.

There are some of us lol.

We went into a six week exclusively, which I think is coming to its conclusion soon. But both parties had to sign a non disclosure agreement. So until everything is done we won't hear a thing.

I'm fairly optimistic about it being as we have been spending so far this season. However I hope we aren't just spending the Delph and Benteke (pretty much inevitable that he will leave) money.

Completely agree that the way we treated Barry was wrong and I hope Fabian doesn't get the same abuse. Unfortunately as with most football fans, the silent majority always lose out to idiots.

Massive fan of Gareth Barry and would take him back in a heartbeat even at the age he is now. Villa Legend. Most people were disappointed because he said he would only go to a champions league club and at the time it was when you guys didn't make 4th. But it was obviously the right choice as Manchester City were on the up and Aston Villa have proven that we couldn't improve on those three fantastic seasons with MON.

Just quickly back to Delph situation I would love it if he was a regular starter for you guys and shone within that team. Obviously there will be reservations due to Rodwell and Sinclair but he is a better player than Rodwell and obviously Sinclair being more attacking had too much competition.

Thanks for all the nice comments anyway folks. Nothing but respect for Manchester City. I wish you all the best for the season.

Starting to look like Delph has played a blinder really. Turned down City for Villa to make sure he got games. Now club captain, peak of his abilities and ready to move up a step. Ran down his contract but even signed a new deal with a stupidly low release clause so that Villa would get at least some money.
