Fabian Delph

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

All these comparisons with Rodwell. Well his problems were from injuries rather than a lack of ability. When he did play he looked like he had something. He was so fragile though, he never really got the benefit of a good run in the side

Aston Villa fan here.

Absolutely gutted to be losing our captain, but understand that he is going to a bigger club for more money and championships.

A bit disappointed after his comments towards us when he signed in January but pleased to get a fee for him rather than him not signing a contract and going on a free.

I do worry for his career that he won't get much game time and therefore may not go to the euros next summer. But Man City have a player that will give everything he has on the pitch.

He won't stand out as a goal scorer and doesn't create as much as your star players but for 8 mil he is a great buy.

Again to reiterate, absolutely gutted about losing him but I wish Fabian and Manchester City all the best for next season.

Classy post , thanks :-)

A very fair-minded and gracious comment from someone who is obviously a 'proper' football fan.

Good luck to Villa next season.

I agree.

They may eventually benefit from ffp being kicked out i the long run, & get some investment coming in.

We saw about twice from Rodwell, what he could have been, & how much better City could have been with that kind of energy.

But Delph is sharper on the ball & gets about quicker & really, I don't understand why people compare one player with another unless they are similar. Delph isn't a sick note like Rodwell or a wild gamble like Sinclair, he is a different player, & an established one. We don't have many in the squad with his particular attributes. Especially now Milner has gone.

This is a fantastic signing imo. If he doesn't fit in, or is inconsistent, we lose hardly anything, if he reaches his best standard, he's a top class player. No lose situation & at his best, exactly the kind of player we have been lacking, to liven up the team.

If Delph is deemed good enough Richards was, I am a fan of Delph and said he could be of interest 9 months ago, What I do not get is not making Micah feel staying was a genuine option. He gets his fitness back he would be a starter and English. Funny biz football.

How many times? Micah was offered very generous terms to stay and fight for his place.

We could sell him tomorrow to Newcastle, Sunderland etc for about £15m, so a great piece of business. But I think he'll be a key player over the next couple of seasons and I'll reckon he'll average at least 30 games, so not the bench warmer the press like to make out.

Every team needs a water carrier and many fans are keen to scoff at the players who are good at it - Barry, Milner, Carrick etc. They may never win awards as everyone likes to see the flashy players and the goalscorers, but you'll win nothing without one.

He'll bring energy into midfield, take a load of Fernandinho either by playing with him or in rotation and was only £8m. He's also got an invaluable passport, but I'd have been happy if he'd been French for that price.

I haven't seen a lot of Delph but when I have he looks full of energy and some skill too; no reason why he shouldn't provide competition for the two Ferns and play as much Milner. Since the the media is always complaining that England players burnt out, 30-35 games a season with top class players should be ideal for him.

Plain Speaking wrote:Good luck to him. He may not be the stellar signing many were hoping for, but like Milner he has high work rate and hopefully he will be an important member of our squad.

He works hard, has a decent pass on him, and is reasonably creative from what I've seen of him - 8 million for an association trained squad player is good business.
Edit, I just read the rest of the thread, seems like he's not coming.

Bit gutted about that. Genuinely needed someone like him...

Was feeling hugely pessimistic about KDB, Pogba and Sterling the other week, even more given recent developments and now this on top?

Big fat sigh.

We've not been snubbed, we've simply not come to an agreement so no deal.

He's taken Micah's advice (well done to the muscle head) and asked for guaranteed playing time. We've responded by saying that we don't give guaranteed starts - it's all down to the manager's choice and that we'd play him if he's fit and if he's the best option.
He's looked at himself and in his own considered opinion he's not good enough to hold down a place in our starting 11 and that combined with a deplorable lack of courage and ambition has brought about the impasse that has prevented pen being put to paper.

He's better off (emotionally) staying in Villa's little pond where a bang average player like him can look good and we're better off without a player on the books who doesn't have balls enough for the big time.

PS. I'm happy for the kid and also glad that we've swerved him.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.
