Douglas Higginbottom wrote:Enjoyed that. How good is David Silva! He basically ran the show in the first half with everyone else playing off him. We had a decent shape in the first half as well. Clearly Sterling is going to be a top player for us. Thought Fernando had a decent game too and Kompany is looking much more like the player we know. Didint' think much of Caballero's attempt to save that shot either. Don't care whet the commentators said I thought he should have saved it and I reckon Joe would have.

As soon as they made all the changes i thought our balance was all wrong. Yaya in the key sitting position just doesn't work for me. Iheanacho took his goal well and did enough to show why he is so highly rated but he has to beware of coming deep and giving the ball away. Barker I thought was overawed more than knackered. The odd decent moment and I thought he kept a defensive position quite well but he did nothing like we know he is capable of.

Navas again workmanlike but the end product missing again. Lopes a few decent moments on the ball but just isn't involved enough for me when in central midfield. Loved Denayer. So good and calm on the ball I reckon Pellegrini won't find it easy to pick his best pairing. Horsfield did ok but just isn't a candidate for a first team full back position.

For me one of the big learning things for the young ones is how senior players use their body strength to win balls, hold off players and especially how they cheat. Many a time someone would just get the body in the right position and then go down and get a cheating foul because they were under some pressure.

Pleased we won and pleased for Joe

Silva is magnificent.

He is very lightweight but to me he looks like a poacher than a target man.

Glad to see a lot of the young uns getting game time and also seeing their progression.

Yeah, a bit Inzaghi-like.

Agree on the kids. I really hope Pellers has the bottles to use them during regular season. Lopes, Denayer, Iheanacho and Garcia all look like they could do a job this season. Perhaps Zuculini too, but I think he will go on loan.

That moment for me is why I would disagree with Doug that Barker was overawed. He just didn't run hard enough either forward or back imo. He ran about, but always half a yard behind the pace. He is a very very quick lad, & should be moving at the same rate as Sterling in both directions. There was no comparison. Imo he's either struggling for energy for whatever reason or he just hasn't got the desire to match his ability. Because his ability is special.

Agree re the pace thing but I just can't get my head around him possibly being knackered from the moment he walked onto the pitch effectively. If he he is struggling for energy maybe it's due to being overawed in some way :) Just can't get why he doesn't look to do things he is best at when he steps up. The more game time he gets with the 1st team I expect the better and easier it will be for him because he is defintely a talent.

He didn't look knackered to start with for me though Doug. It was after he'd made a few runs. Later in the half, he was struggling to follow Maicon. He could overtake Maicon running backwards carrying a bag of cement. He didn't look right at all to me.

I do wonder if it's due to growing though. I've read that Bale had a big problem in that respect & they had to just wait until he got through it. Barker looks like that kind of shape to me; as if he's turning into something else!

Going where? Who will pay their wages? I wonder if the De Bruyne transfer is dependent on us getting one or both of these off our books.

In general though i really enjoyed that. Silva, Iheanacho and Garcia linked up so well with Sterling in the first half. Was mightily encouraging. I really enjoyed Lopes' initial impact too - was really Barkley-like, driving through the middle. Agree it didn't sustain, but that felt typical of a friendly for me. No one held the ball well in the second half I thought. Felt it affected the whole team, and lopes definitely. You really can't deny his talent though. Its really obvious. Denayer's too.

Lopes for me is like a little Silva clone in the making. i think he's a true talent.

I was disappointed with Barker, but saw glimpses of what everyone says about him. All in all, i hope we're patient with the kid.

cheers

p.s. Denayer and ze Mangler will be our first team CBs at some point this season. You read it here first.

This is about you. Not me. Don't change the subject you fickle licking fucker. Get on your mancio, and ride it out of town like you're going to do as soon as we sell your bum boy Edin. Please.

You don't need to fake it or try and be cool about it. I am not judging you. Just own it and move along.

What a condescending attitude to a fellow City fan. If this is something you really need to do, I suggest you take it to PM.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."
